testimonials and insulation

SOME RECENT TESTIMONIALS

In the late 80's I worked part time at an Outdoor Sporting goods store in Durham, North Carolina. We sold Wiggys bags. I was going to buy one for myself and got a lot of tech information from reps of different companies. When I called Wiggys Jerry answered the phone. His advice, "if you buy another bag, you're wasting your money". With such confidence I got my first 0 degree Wiggys bag. We ran to sleep outside at a friend's farm on a 5 degree night. Was never concerned, warm all night. So, I worked on my friends to get one. I offered one friend a 0 degree or a 20 degree bag (both Wiggys). There was a $25 difference, I think. She said, "I will buy the 0 degree bag because one day it's going to get really cold and I know I would gladly give somebody $25 to stay warm". Happy customer! Since, Wiggys has honored its warranty twice on my bag. I also bought two lighter ones. Have patched them several times since two generations of dogs have gotten to them. Don't camp much anymore but they are my (and my dog's companion) every night. I know its perhaps silly but I have saved a few dollars on the heating bill also. They just keep giving. Thank you, Jerry, for what you created. Very few times do I believe there should only be one product. But in this case, there should only be one sleeping bag made, Wiggys. Took me 30 years to say this. Don't laugh, this product is the best!

I enjoy receiving these testimonials one and all, thank you Omar.

Sooo Toasty!

I got some down Booties shortly before I bought these. They couldn’t light a match to these. My feet were still so cold with those down Booties on. I got these put them on and instant warmth. I never want to take them off!

Brittany

Brittany you are the very first to write to me stating how poorly the down booties performed and noting the comparison how well the Wiggy booties perform. Thank you, Jerry

Wife Loves Her Booties

My wife has complained about her feet being cold for years. She’s tried everything from afghans to woolen socks and slippers. Nothing worked well. I bought her a pair of your Booties to try and she loves them! She says that they keep her toes, feet, ankles and lower legs warm and comfortable but not sweaty. She wears a size 7 1/2 shoe and the medium Bootie fits great. Thanks for another great product!

Obviously, I have basically concentrated my efforts in showing how well the Lamilite performs in sleeping bags and not so much in other products such as booties. But it really makes no difference what type of product you make that is insulated if you use Lamilite it is better.

As an example, for a number of years we produced engine covers for single engine airplanes. There was a pilot’s magazine published in Alaska that started publishing in April/May 1999 called Northern Pilot.

They did a test of the efficiency of engine covers one winter and asked me to give them one for the test. They had four or five candidates. I do not have a copy of the magazine unfortunately but my engine cover won easily.

After they turned off the engines, they put the covers on and several hours later they used an infrared camera to see where the heat left the engines. Of those tested mine was the only one that was black and the others were red. The heat escaped everywhere through the other engine covers.

The reason for this account is because a person called and told me he had a problem and needed to cover his engine to heat it and borrowed a Wiggy engine cove to heat the engine with a blow dryer. It worked so well and impressed him so he called to have me make one for him. Unfortunately for him I no longer make them.

I make the most efficient insulated products because I use the most efficient insulation known to man, continuous filament fiberfill in a manufacturing method that requires lamination first. If other manufacturers wanted to buy the Lamilite I would not only sell it to them but give them the training of how to use it. Then whatever they wanted to make would be as good an insulated product as mine are.

Today I read in industry online publications that North Face is introducing a “new” insulation in Korea called “Eco Heat Down” and then I read that 3-m is introducing their newest version of Thinsulate called “ Thinsulate Flowable Featherless Insulation”. Both of these companies have to have new insulations because their older insulations have failed to work for all these years that they have been in the business of either making outerwear as in the case of North Face or selling to manufacturers as is the case of 3-m.

Year after year these companies will try to convince the buying public that they have a better mouse trap than they had in the past. I consider them snake oil salesperson in total.

Maybe the day in time will come when new people enter the outerwear business and will learn that the only insulation to use that performs is continuous filament and of course, the best method to use it is laminated. I may not be around when or if that happens.
