Hi Wiggys crew,
The new site looks great!

Just wanted to take a minute and thank you for your work.

From the Antarctic Bag & Mitts, our beautiful white Fossil Ridge Parkas & Bibs, Mukluks, even the booties & other odds & ends…   these have all become my favorite things, because they’re the equipment depend on with full confidence.  Amazing warmth, breathability and comfort, rugged durability, washability, and the quality of your company itself, standing behind your products & even accommodating custom orders; there is just no one like you guys.

You’ve made winter my favorite time of year.  Now when it’s -35, I grab a book, my gear & snowshoes, head out wherever, and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air in total comfort.  I’ve used your gear winter camping & adventuring up into canada, climbing up/sliding down snow, ice, rocks & dirt, been blown across Lake Superior on my face in ice squalls and after the initial shock, even enjoyed the experience of getting run over by the freight train whiteout hurricane, completely warm & protected.  Somehow, this stuff shows no wear yet!  I don’t get it, but I love it.

I can’t thank you enough for the excellent equipment and your willingness to do custom work to make everything perfect for your customers.

Sincerely,
Pete Doering

Here are a few pics of places your gear has allowed me  to go...

Mr. Wigutow,

In August of this year I completed my Alaskan caribou hunt that I discussed in my first email back in April, 2014. During the trip, I utilized the Super Light bag that I purchased on your advice. I had the FTRSS with me but I did not need it! I used it as an extra sleeping bag since the Super Light was plenty warm; for short periods I slept with bare feet and was plenty warm. I was able to dry out most of my clothes just by either wearing them in the bag or stuffing them inside while I was in it. My buddies with cheap bags never could dry their clothes and they were miserable. I did not take your ground pad with me since we had an outfitter camp package that included (cheap USGI-type) sleeping pads.

I also wore daily your 9” socks and jacket liner. They worked very well in keeping me warm and dry. The socks were very comfortable during the 40-plus miles I walked while on the hunt. In the attached photo I was wearing the jacket inside out as 'tundra camo.' It worked well in that regard.

Anyways, thank you for the great advice and for the great products.

I think I bought my Ultima Thule back in like 1997 and it's still my go to bag in the winter time here in Colorado. Over New Year's eve I backpacked up Pikes Peak and camped inside Monty's Rock Pile just below Barr Camp. The temp at night was around 5 below zero and I slept toasty warm thanks to your bag. Thanks Jerry.

[Here's a picture of] your awsome waders at work. 3rd season on them and of course they were trashed by the end of last season, but a few patches got us through this season. They sure do make crossing streams with sheep meat on your back a little nicer. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

  1. Retired Jarhead

I'm a retired Marine. My best-ever mentor and boss introduced me to Wiggy's gear back in 1990ish. At the time I was a cold weather instructor at a Marine cold weather training base. This tour was followed by a stint at a special ops training unit. During these two tours of duty, I traveled all over the world training and operating in cold and the mountains. This is a preface to the fact that in the beginning, my old boss suggested that I buy an Ultima Thule sleeping bag. I have since spent literally hundreds of nights in this bag. It has made two trips to high camp at 17, 000 feet on Denali, and trips to Greenland, Iceland, Norway, etc. The bag has also been my best friend on many cold and wet trips in mountains all over the western US. Just this year I spent over 20 nights in the same bag at over 9,000 feet in North central Idaho. Bottom line I love the bag. During the past 30 years I've worn out several high-quality packs but my go-to bag, Wiggy's Ultima Thule just keeps on keeping on. Which is why I'm ordering two more for my sons as soon as I'm done with this review.

  2. High Performance and Outstanding Quality

    Jerry,
Just a quick note to thank you for your outstanding products. A few weeks ago my son and I went camping in north central Wyoming. We woke up to 6" of snow and temperatures in the low 20's with wind gusts up to 40 mph. My son was critical of my leg jackets and told me I should have spent the same amount of money on a full body snow suit made of Gore-Tex. However, he spent most of the time in the vehicle trying to stay warm while I was comfortable treading around in the snow! I had on the fishnet base layer, the liner vest, and the liner jacket. At one point I began to perspire, but amazingly, I never got cold, and there was no moisture buildup in my clothing. I also have the FTRSS sleeping bags, and I was toasty all night long. Your clothing and sleeping bags out perform any other manufacturer in the industry. I would say that you are the leader of the outdoor clothing industry. Nobody else comes close.

    Regards,

    Rob Merlo

  3. Incredible customer service!

Just a quick note to say that I was very impressed on my first order with Wiggy's. I had placed an order but wasn't sure of the size on my Men's fishnet legging sleep pants. The owner himself called me right away, changed the sizing and shipped immediately! I received my order the very next day!!! Seldom is such amazing customer service found....I haven't field tested the items, but I am very impressed and will be back soon to check out other items and the helpful videos on this site! Highly recommend!!

  4. Best sleeping bag I have ever owned.

I own a -60 degree rectangular bag. I have camped all my life from age 8 to present. I have owned walmart bags, sierra design bags, mountain hardware bags, north face bags, marmot bags, and many more than i can remember.

The only thing I can say against this bag is it weighs in just under 9 lbs.

SO WHAT it will save your LIFE or keep you alive as it did me.

I have now used my bag for 2 winters now at 9600 feet.

I have experienced nights from -34F to anywhere around 32F. This bag performs like no other, even at the lowest temperatures you will have no idea how cold it is outside the bag. The large over hang of material around the zippers keeps me warm, although on the lowest of days (-25F or below) I would certainly recommend socks as your body has less heat to disperse to those areas. Duh... your torso and head give off more heat. I use this bag to stay alive on a daily basis during winter as I work 16 -12 hours a day and don't have time to go home and commute again if I want a good sleep. I sleep in my car and store the bag in a xl dry bag that is a duffle. Not only do I survive I thrive. If it is above 20F be prepared to unzip as you will be HOT. I have spent over 90 days sleeping in this bag over 2 years at 9600 FT. No other bag I have found is up to the task or will last longer. Thanks Jerry, and all those working behind him. You make a truly unique product.

  5. Lamilite Socks definitely worth it

Purchased a pair of the 13inch Lamilite socks after speaking with the owner Jerry on size recommendation. I have no idea what sort of sorcery is involved in the manufacturing process, but my feet legit stay dry after wearing for several hours at a time in high activity. You expect your feet to be soaked because of the feel of the material on your bare feet, but nope, they stay dry.

Definitely recommended for higher aerobic activities in cold weather.

  6. Edited do add

My Wiggys bag is not next to me, as I sit here typing, but your sweater is on the door behind me, your 6oz liner is next to it. Your nomex 6 oz shirt is in the front clothes closet, Head to toe arctic stuff is in a stuff sack in my bedroom. Socks and fishnets are in my dresser bottom drawer. I'm sitting typing in your 3oz. liner. I know where your sleeping bags are, but I keep my clothes closer.

    Regards, Jim

  7. Nothing but Wiggys

Just the other day I educated some folks re yous. I told them of my experience with your products, and they said they would contact you. I have no idea if that in fact happened, but big boy rules. All I can do is educate.

If I was Zar of military purchases, every soldier, coasty, sailor or airman would have Wiggys sleeping bags and pads and clothes. Maybe that would be enough to entice Wiggy to reestablish his clothing line. Just as there is no replacement for his bags and pads, under the doctrine of your clothing as your first and perhaps your only line of protection, that we survive out of our pockets, totally independent shelter, based on the worst the location and season can muster. Heed the forecast, and realize local conditions are not necessarily regional conditions, based on the historical weather record for where you are/going recognizing that records are made to be and likely will be broken. There is no replacement for his clothes, just no wear no warm clothes. Depending on when or where, that can be life threatening.
Yes, with your Wiggys bag and pad and perhaps a tarp or tent, that no matter what, if you can get into that bag, you will be warm. Sometimes, mobility is necessary part of my survival. Wiggys from head to toe, in layers, mix and match, his Freedom sleeping bag can be another layer, as well as a sleeping bag, I can thrive ongoing in any conditions this side of space or under the ocean.
I teach his bags and his pads, and his clothes, unaffected by moisture or compression, doesn't support combustion (Nomex available, doesn't burn), clothes mitigate environmental hypothermia, and his bags treat environmental or traumatic hypothermia. Not either or but and, please.

    Regards, Jim

  8. HOME INVADED BY WIGGY'S!!!

4 comforters, 2 Urban Antarctic parkas, fishnet drawers, & a dog jacket later, all is well. Safe & warm. Latest purchase was 4th comforter for sister & brother in-law for use in their motorhome when travelling. They LOVE it! Sounds like they'll be using it at home also. Works best in close contact with body. Too many attributes to list. BOTTOM LINE: KEEP 'EM COME'N, ACE!!!!

  9. Lifetime guarantee !

    Hello Wiggys,

Just wanted to thank you for your finely crafted products and over-the-top customer service.
I’m totally impressed and recommend Wiggys whenever the subject of outdoor gear comes up.
Thanks again for standing behind your products.

    Be well,

    Frank in Arizona

  10. Thanks for adding to the work of Gerry Cunningham and keeping it alive.

I will order a pair of your fishnets soon. In the mean time, here is a picture of a parka I made from a pattern in Gerry's other book, Lightweight camping equipment and how to make it.

The parka is over 40 years old and has a few extra ventilation holes.

It is made from Fairlane nylon, a type of taffeta that I believe Gerry recommended.

Thanks also for providing reasonably priced fishnet underwear with the Gerry-approved size of holes. You are also keeping the work of Norwegian fishermen alive.
