All of the components that are incorporated in the manufacture of sleeping bags made in the USA can be made with components manufactured in the USA. I know because I buy materials made in the USA. Of the materials I buy the single most important is the insulation.
The nylon fabric can be duplicated in Asia, the zipper made for me by YKK has been made for probably 50 years in Japan, but they make them for me in either Georgia or California. The draw cord is made one half mile from me here in Grand Junction. All of my labels are made in the USA. The only component that is imported for me is the cord lock. It is made in Germany and is by far the best cord lock I have ever seen. The fabric in many cases is actually made for the military and as a result I am able to buy as much of it as I can use. The quality is second to none.
Back to the insulation. The insulation you will agree is the single most important component of any insulated product. All of the other components I have mentioned have no value if the insulation does not work. The insulation that I use which is continuous filament fiber is trade named Climashield, the main component of Lamilite, and is only produced in the USA. As I have written numerous times in the now 52 years (I find that number incredible) that I have worked with fiberfill for insulating purposes, the continuous filament raw material has absolutely no peer. With the exception of The North Face Company currently shipping it to China for their bags (the weights they use are not adequate for sleeping bag use in my opinion) not one other US based company selling sleeping bags any longer does the same. The other companies buy chopped staple fiberfill for their bags and offer in their advertising as I have also written incredible stories of how well these fiberfill products are supposed to work. The truth is they basically lie about the fiberfill’s ability to perform, which I have also written about.
Unfortunately the companies that market sleeping bags have chosen not to accept my offer to sell them the Lamilite or have me private label bags for them. I have explained to them that they lose business to me because my sleeping bags are made in the USA and theirs are not quite often. My offer has fallen on deaf ears.
I certainly appreciate people who call Wiggy’s and order bags because it is not only good for Wiggy’s directly but it is also good for my suppliers. Aside from customers getting a made in America product, they are also getting the best sleeping bag made in the world — a fact that I am very proud of. So to all of you, who have supported Wiggy’s for the past 27 years, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
