Over the years I have written extensively about fishnet long underwear and why they are the unquestioned best first layer of clothing one can, or should, wear when the weather is cold. I first learned about the use of fishnet material when I read this section of Gerry Cunningham’s booklet How to Keep Warm published in 1971. Back then I was selling polyester fiberfill to almost all of the skiwear manufacturers. I called on all of the companies but did not necessarily sell all. Gerry made down filled garments and, while I developed a good relationship with the buyer, that relationship still exists today — although Tommy is no longer with Gerry as they are no longer in business. They never did even sample synthetics, they stayed with down. However, each time I visited I took a handfull of the booklets that I gave to the many companies I called on so they too could get an education in how to stay warm, however this information fell on deaf ears. That said, below is the section titled “ventilation” in its entirety.
Having read the above I recommend that you go to the Wiggy’s web site and find fishnet underwear in the clothing section. Once there click on more information and you can read the history of fishnets.
Wiggy’s is currently the only manufacturer of fishnet underwear in the USA. When I first started manufacturing them about 1990 I was pleasantly surprised by the number of men of the 1960’s who had been using them for so many years that they were thread bare. They were overjoyed to know they could finally replace them. What they had were made from cotton yarns versus what I use which is nylon. The nylon is stronger and more efficient. Over the past 23 years (I can’t believe it is that long) sales of fishnet underwear have grown and they are no longer a seasonal product, we sell them 12 months a year.
My philosophy is and always has been to present factual information about the products made at Wiggy’s and consumers will buy them. Wiggy’s today is the single largest manufacturer of quality sleeping bags in the world because so many of my customers have experienced that the sleeping bags perform as advertised. Wiggy’s is not the largest underwear maker nor will we ever be, but I expect the sales of fishnet underwear to continue to grow.
