A BOOT STORY

Posted by

A STORY WORTH TELLING

Hi Jerry,

I bought a pair of these "blem boots" or "factory seconds" last fall and used them on several occasions hiking on soil, rock and in the snow this winter. All I can say is that I love these boots! They may be about the best boots I have ever purchased.

First off, they are true "American" sizes. My feet are actually about a size 12 but because of overseas production, I have become accustomed to buying size 14 all the time. Good thing I tried them on at your factory first because your size 12 Lamilite Boots fit me perfectly. So if any of your customers out there order a pair, don't go by the overseas standards... get your regular American size.

Secondly I noticed that the brown leather is slightly softer and not quite as firm as the black. You explained to me that in the dye process black comes out a bit more firm at first than the natural brown. Either boot would have been great but I chose the brown and I love it.

When I asked you how hard they were to "break-in", you told me that there was no break-in period, that they are ready to wear right out of the box. Man were you right! I used to soak brand new boots in water and wear them until dry to break them in faster. Not these! I put these on the first day, wore them all day long and then went hiking with them the next weekend and not a blister or a sore spot anywhere. They are phenomenal.

When Jerry says, "No break-in required" - he means No Break-In Required! It's true. So don't be afraid to buy your real size and start wearing them right out of the box. These are some of the most comfortable boots I have ever owned and I recommend them to anyone.

The Vibram soles are also a great bottom with good grip. The inside is extremely comfortable and they do come with a removable insert which appears that it will last many years. When laced up tight, they do not pinch the ankle because of the quality of the leather and the craftsmanship of the build. I do treat mine with Lexol Leather Conditioner and pure Mink Oil. Be sure to rub it in good along all the stitching and seams, especially where the sole meets the leather. This is a spot where all boots tend to deteriorate if not treated properly and regularly.

I also purchased the Lamilite Socks to go with the boots and although they looked weird to me at first, they are just as comfortable as any other sock in my drawer. However, with the Lamilite Socks my feet stay dry even after hiking all day down into and back up out of a canyon. These socks are sort of like wearing a mini-sleeping bag on your feet and yes, I did wear the socks in my sleeping bag at night as well. They worked great.

I think that about covers it. The Lamilite Boots are great - even the "seconds" are superb. I actually like the blemish mine have in the leather. It gives them character and saved me a hundred bucks!

Thanks Jerry for another great product.

Sincerely yours,

Mark Hillen

COLORADO.

Mark is a good customer who lives 20 miles from Grand Junction and has acquired a number of products over the years so I get good feedback from him all of the time. Having someone use your products in your back yard is very informative, and appreciated.

Having the sale for these boots basically for subscribers to my newsletter has been very enlightening for me. All of the people I have spoken with have been very generous with their time and informed me of the variety of products each currently owns. They have told me that they have also purchased product for family members and told ever so many people about my products. Word of mouth advertising is as good as it gets.

I have been getting more and more phone calls from new people who are becoming customers because when they e mail me I tell them to call. It gives me more of an opportunity to answer their questions and guide them to the proper Wiggy product that will perform for their intended use. In some cases they offer that they have tried getting information from other companies unsuccessfully, which is not a surprise.

In some instances I am able to correct the erroneous information they were told by the customer service representatives they have spoken with. They sometimes will talk with a manufacturer or a retailer. Unfortunately the representative they speak with is only parroting what they have been told and in reality do not know they have been given erroneous information. Once in a while I will call rei and ask questions and will suggest to the representative that they read something on the Wiggy web site that disputes what they are basically programed to tell callers. I do not tell them who I am.

I always encourage people to call so I can offer them the most accurate information so they do not make a mistake and waste their money on products that simply do not perform as advertised.

Maybe one day more companies will have owners who are ready to answer the phone and give proper information to prospective or existing customers not only in the outdoor industry but all industries in America.
