MAYBE THEY RECEIVED THE ITEMS FOR FREE?
Scottish Avalanche Information Service (SAIS) forecasters are staying dry and comfortable this winter, through a collaboration between La Sportiva and WL Gore.
SAIS is the main source of avalanche information for people venturing onto the Scottish hills, compiling daily hazard forecasts for the most popular areas throughout the winter season, and generating over 3,000 website visits on a busy winter’s day. Its forecasters are out every day, in all conditions, reporting observations on snow stability, accumulation and assessing the current avalanche hazard.
La Sportiva, through UK distributor Lyon Equipment, is supporting SAIS as a brand partner in conjunction with WL Gore to supply mountain footwear to team members.
Simon Tulley, from Lyon Equipment, said: “It’s the nature of the job that SAIS forecasters need to stay comfortable in cold, damp and often technical mountain situations. We’re pleased that in choosing La Sportiva boots they can be sure they will remain secure and comfortable in this important work.”
Matthew Davis, R&D Associate, WL Gore & Associates added: “GORE continues to support and work closely alongside SAIS ensuring our pinnacle GORE-TEX products are suitably tested in real world environmental conditions.”
Mark Diggins, SAIS coordinator, said: “The team spends approximately 680 days in the mountains each winter, in challenging and serious conditions. Good clothing and equipment allow us to carry out our job with confidence, and we are therefore very grateful to have the support of La Sportiva through Lyon Equipment.”
La Sportiva, Lyon Equipment and obviously gore have no regard for the safety and comfort of the Scottish Avalanche Information Service workers. These organizations do not know or understand the use of the goretex film used in their footwear is NOT going to keep their feet comfortable in cold, damp and often technical mountain situations. The recipients of this footwear will unfortunately be very disappointed when they are out in the conditions mentioned.
The gore company representative can stand atop those mountains and shout as loud as they can about goretex products all they want, but the truth is goretex does not work as the claim today and have been claiming since they put the product on the market over 40 years ago.
Did SAIS receive the products gratis and if so who financed them? La Sportiva, Lyons or gore? Was it all three or just one? It makes no difference because these workers WILL in cold conditions have cold feet. That is the nature of ALL footwear made with goretex or any film placed in footwear.
A TESTIMONIAL OF WORTH.
I have been following your product line since the paper catalogs you used to mail out. It wasn't until last year that I actually took action and bought a few items to try out the Lamilite. I have not been disappointed yet with the socks, liner vests, and have no complaints with the stellar customer care from both you and your staff. I am a walking billboard for your product line in the transportation business and though I'm not as well versed in textiles, I point anyone who is interest to your website for more information.
I was not surprised that the one customer who showed his stupidity by sending you that email would have some form of retribution from you. However, I was just as offended as you and all your loyal customers were after reading his email. I've used my socks and vest liner daily. I grew up in the sub-arctic, but driving OTR 24/7/365 mandates keeping healthy. I've worn your socks since the fall season and have had no issues with my feet. It's the middle of the winter season and I've been through rough weather in the lower 48, especially sleeping out in the cold in my vehicle, but my socks and my liner vest keep me warm and comfortable and healthy. Yesterday, during my home time off the road, I donned the vest and socks and headed out to warm up the van to run an errand. The temperature at 0900 was -3 F but with the wind chill factor, it was -18 F. Cold but not like in Anchorage. Still, the van was hard to start and everything in it was frozen. I was FINE while I warmed up the van, drove the van, walked in and out of the store, and unloaded the van.
TLDR; the whiner guy has neither no idea what he's talking about when he not only complains about Wiggy's products in a 50-degree F HOUSE nor any basis on his statements about Lamilite or any workmanship from Wiggy's.

Anna thank you!
Now if the SAIS workers are wearing the Lamilite socks then they would have a better chance of having warm feet, but they would still have moisture in the footwear.
It is very obvious that people in the outdoor industry at all levels meaning shoes, socks jackets, hand wear, etc. have chosen to cower to the bogus waterproof breathable crowd let by the gore company and incorporate a known component that has never worked in the manner it has been and still is advertised to do for at least 40 years.
The actions of people who run these companies is in a word “despicable” as far as I am concerned. They have no regard for the people who want their products and they look at the customer straight in the eye and tell them a bold face lie.
The only point at which products currently made using this film or any other film is if the consuming public simply refuses to buy products made with it.
In all of the years I have been exposing waterproof breathable materials as bogus I have never received one person writing to me stating that I am wrong, however I have published numerous comments attesting to the reality that waterproof breathable do not work. Are all who write to me wrong or have they all experienced the same problems? The answer to that question is YES!!! I often wonder if these same people who have written to me have also written to the companies whose garments that have purchased or even gore? If they haven’t they should, just my opinion.
At this time there are boot manufacturing companies exhibiting at the SHOT show in L.V. NV. showing their latest and greatest primarily goretex lined boots with the same old tag line “waterproof and breathable” and even though the people who are employed at these companies charged with the responsibility to sell these boots know that they are lying and it doesn’t matter they say it anyway.
Shortly the OR show will take place and again the companies that sell jackets will be spouting off about their waterproof breathable lie. For years I have heard from those charged with selling the stuff that they know it doesn’t work, but they simply do not care.
Such is the way it is, if you can make a buck by lying it is okay!!!
I RESEARCHED TEMPERATURE RATINGS FOR BOOTS
The only boot I could find that had a temperature rating applies to it is made by La Cross. They have a model called Alpha Thermal and it has a temperature rating of plus 30 degrees to minus 40 degrees F. I am almost shocked to see a boot temperature rated and for as low -40 degrees but publishing erroneous information is the normal these days. The boot is rubberize so it is both waterproof on the outside as well as the inside. It has a neoprene lining to further enhance its ability to keep the moisture from your feet in the boot. I do not recommend ever wearing these boots below their high rating of plus 30 degrees.
Maybe if I look hard enough I’ll find other boots with a ridiculous temperature rating; you never know!!
