ANOTHER ONE JOINING THE NO GORE BAND WAGON-SEE WHAT YOU STARTED
Jerry,
Here is a new vlog from a popular thru-hiker. She learned firsthand Gore-tex does not work.
Thought you might like to see it, in this case, she is singing to the choir.

Have a great day!
Kent Thygerson
The title is actually Kent’s e mail title when he sent this to me.
It would be nice if footwear manufacturers would take the time to view this video as well as the Skurka video showing or explaining that the goretex did not work at all. They should them go to gore and have them view the video and explain why they say one thing and the general public has discovered that the goretex film is not functioning as described in their presentation.
Actually it is completely unnecessary for the footwear manufacturers who use the goretex to listen to the Dixie who made the video because ALL of the footwear manufacturers already know the goretex film does not work. Several of the designers with whom I have spoken and reported in the past told me they know water retention in goretex lined boots is 100 percent common in all models made with it.
I have also had communication with employees of companies that sell goretex lined boots who agree that it does not work which I have also reported but they will continue to sell them anyway.
Reality check here; not one company making footwear that currently uses goretex in their footwear has any interest in terminating its use because they probably fear that retailers they sell to will stop buying from them. Retailers in general take the course of least resistance when it comes to bringing product into their stores. They just want the consumer to walk in and take product off of the shelf and put it on the counter to pay for it. Then all they have to say is thank you. It is irrelevant to the retailer if the product being sold functions as described or not.
If you think it is a sad situation that consumers live with you are correct.
IF more people step to the plate as Dixie has to voice their dissatisfaction as she has maybe at some point in the near (I like to think) future goretex will come to an end.
To let you know how the thinking goes in the outdoor industry let us look at the “new” water proof breathable material that will be on the market shortly from the north face company. It is named “futurelight”. Some company in Asia is applying a mix of filaments to the nylon material and the end result supposedly is a more porous matrix that will allow more moisture as a vapor through the material than the goretex film allows. Stating from laboratory tests that this is true is meaningless. IF you were to wear a jacket utilizing the nylon without any film or matrix applied to it would still not allow much sweat out of the garment. Therefore, whatever sweat may get out of the garment is insignificant towards allowing the wearer to be comfortable. So big deal!
The reality is as I see it an effort on the part of the north face to cash in on a money making opportunity to take business away from gore. Does gore care, absolutely not because when the north face recognizes the phony waterproof breathable concept as a viable way to make garments they are supporting ALL companies that either make waterproof breathable concept materials or garments from these materials. They at the north face are just keeping the bogus lie about waterproof breathable materials alive.
You of course know that gore has their logo on most garments made from goretex laminated fabric, and you also know that every north face jacket has their logo so they will most likely add their futurelight logo to all garments made with futurelight laminated material. So they once again use their customers as bill boards.
People in general when it comes to material advertised as waterproof and breathable must have a reality check; THERE IS NO SUCH MATERIAL MADE BY MAN THAT IS BOTH WATERPROOF AND BREATHABLE!!! GET IT!!!
But there will be some who love north face and do not believe they are capable of screwing those who spend money with them, so when they own one of these garments made with futurelight material they will swear it works.
Dear Mr. Wiggy. I wore my parka out in the rain today and the water just beaded up and rolled off. Is the Supplex waterproof like the ducksback? I was pretty impressed.
James
The Supplex and Ducksback materials are the best there is when it comes to water resistant materials. I am also researching the correlation between the Lamilite insulation used in these garments and why water does not actually penetrate the fabric but water does penetrate the fabric when the insulation is either a chopped staple fiber such as primaloft or down. For all of the years I have been making Lamilite insulated products water has simply never been a problem going through the fabrics, that is to say water going from the outside in to the garment.
