WHY I DO NOT CARE IF I EVER SELL ANYTHING TO THE U.S.M.C.
On Wednesday October 2, 2019 I read on the government web site where solicitations are published as well as awarded. It is FedBizOpps.com.
They had an award for 312 over boots awarded to Outdoor Research with a value of $63,300.00. That means the over boots are $202.98 per pair.
When I finished reading this award information, I noted that the solicitation was posted on August 27, 2019. I look at this website daily and call one of the gsa contract holders I deal with if there is a product I make.
I called the point of contact Anthony Fennell and asked when it was posted, he told me August 27, 2019 and I told him I never saw it. I also said it should never have been published as a “sole source” purchased. He told me no other company came forward with a bid, I said how could that happen if it was not published. You can go into the web site and go back probably for a year or more anytime you want too, which I did hence the reason I know it was never published. He did not appreciate my comment that he was a joke.
I then called Todd Towles the Project Officer at MARCORSYSCOM which is the acronym for Marine Corps Systems Command. It is in Quantico, VA. When I spoke with him, he told me “HE” did a market research study and could not find other companies that made over boots. While we were on the phone, I went into the Bing search engine. I wrote “over boots” and nothing else. I hit enter and the first page that came up had maybe 8 or 9 names of companies with over boots and Wiggy’s was number 5 on the list.
So much for him doing open market research!
I told him that my over boots were originally made for a Captain based at the MC mountain warfare training center at Bridgeport, CA. (He knew the Captain). He bought 14 pair and were tested very well, but they never bought any more. However, I have since sold hundreds of pairs over the years and since last winter sales for this product as well as the muk luks has increased because they work. I also told him that my knowledge of insulation and how to best use it does not exist with any other human or group of them in the world today. I further told him having worn the uniform back in the early 60’s I experienced poor quality equipment and was very firm that if it did not work in a combat situation it did not belong and my products all of them do.
I finally said he should buy 12 pair of my over boots and let 12 guys use them with the Outdoor Research products. He said he would see if the money man could swing it and called me this morning. He said they had a program where they would take from me 12 pair and after 3 months of use testing, they would return them with a report. They just spent $63,300.00 on what I expect will be a trash product and if they go to my website, they can buy them delivered to the base for $110.00 a pair. I also thought this guy must have trouble walking because of the size of his B****.
Normally these awards stay on the FedBizOpps website for months but this one was removed so I asked if the award was withdrawn, he said no.
When I think of Outdoor Research, I think of a company that sells defective products. Their biggest item I guess are their ground pads. I cannot tell you the number of people over the many years I have been camping who have purchased their ground pads and find out they get holes in them quite easily and the patch kits do not make any sense because you may patch the hole but another appears someplace else.
Once they decided to get into the sleeping bag business and it failed. You may recall when I saw an order from one of their lackies for a pair of muk luks and over boots when they were part of the sole source contract for 3 companies to make 150 pair of muk luks each. One company bowed out, so I got to make 300 pair totals.
Now this guy from the USMC Todd Towels tells me he had spoken this morning with Natick about my muk luks he said over boots which I never made for Natick and whoever he spoke with told him they were interested in making a couple of changes. I was aware of this but Jay McNamara who started the original program never contacted me so I could find out what changes were desirable. But who ever Todd spoke with told him I ignored contacting them? The new team leader” is a guy named Albert Adams and I suspect that is who Todd spoke with. Jay moved on and Albert took over.
If these organizations want any Wiggy’s products they will just have to order them online. When they have exhausted all efforts to make something that is insulated work Wiggy’s will still be around making the very best insulated product of their type in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To all you Marines as well as soldiers in general when you get tired of being issued poor quality non-functioning equipment Wiggy’s will be here to provide you with the best your money can buy, and my products will last you for years after you have left the military.
Being from NYC I can say something here does not sound Kosher to me!!!
