NOT BEING THE ONLY ONE, BUT I AM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This morning a person known as “unknown” signed a comment to me that Wiggy’s was not the only company that makes - 60-degree F sleeping bags and Wiggy’s was not the only sleeping bag manufacturer in the U.S.A.

I suspect he is a reader so I decided to answer “unknown” in this article.

Unknown you made these statements in you e mail but you did not offer the names of any companies that claim to make a -60-degree F sleeping bag whether in the USA or any other country in the world. The reason is simply because there are none, or to the best of my knowledge there are none.

Wiggy’s has been making -60-degree sleeping bags since about 1992 when I was asked to make 32 for a USA and Russian research operation on an ice- berg about 2 miles square floating in the Weddle sea off of Antarctica. They worked so well I decided to add the model to the line of Wiggy bags and naturally call it the Antarctic bag, a fitting name I thought.

Since then sales of the Antarctic bag have been increasing way beyond what I thought would ever happen with regards to the sales of a bag with this cold a temperature rating. Some time in the mid 1990’s to men from Sweden walked 700 kilometers across Greenland and wrote to me they could not believe they would be comfortable at -50-degrees F sleeping under the stars. Their trip was put by them on the internet but I couldn’t tell you where to look today.

I used to use my Antarctic bag when I hunted and the coldest, I was at was -30 degrees F. I have supplied the military with the Antarctic bag for years for use above the arctic circle.

In all of the years I have been making the -60-degree F sleeping bag I have not heard of any other company offering one.

As far as Wiggy’s being the only sleeping bag manufacturer in the U.S.A. it is true. As a point of fact I do not believe there are any other sleeping bags manufacturers. There are several companies that have a factory and claim to make sleeping bags and there are more companies that have contractors primarily in China that they tell what they want in a sleeping bag but do not have their own factory.

In each case what comes out of these factories are products called sleeping bags, but are they? You see a sleeping bag has but one real purpose and that is to give a person who goes into the wild so to speak a cocoon shaped covering in which they can sleep. However, as I have been told over 1000 times at the least by people who have purchase Wiggy’s sleeping bags the bag they had been using did nit keep them warm enough to actually sleep.

These people were very verbal about the brand they wasted their money on be it North Face, Big Agnes, Kelty, Sierra Designs, snugpak or Mountain Hardwear who makes the lamina their attempt to copy Wiggy’s Lamilite.

So I ask you if these and all the rest of the brands out their who claim to make sleeping bags and the people who buy them learn they don’t keep them warm, that means to me they have purchased a “no sleep sleeping bag”.

What that also tells me since my bags perform at all of the different temperatures, I rate them for use I must be the only sleeping bag manufacturer not only in the USA but the world. This is the only conclusion that I can come to and the facts speak for themselves.

I am very comfortable stating that Wiggy’s bags are the largest sold bags in the USA at a retail price of $100.00 or more than all the rest of the “no sleep sleeping bags” combined that sell for the $100.00 price or more.

Yesterday I received an email from a GSA contracting company asking if I had a covering that will retain radiant heat. I inquired who told him to ask that question; he said his customer. I informed him that radiant heat loss was not the problem. The bag they were using was the problem. I further told him the unit should donate the bags to the derelicts walking the streets of SF, CA. and get new bags that worked. He finally told me they needed bags for sub-zero temperatures. I told him they needed the Ultima Thule bags. whether he gets an order for them I do not know. But I am sure there are many American soldiers being issued cold weather bags not meant for cold weather. So, they too will discover that they have been given “no sleep sleeping bags”.

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE COMPANIES I TRIED TO EDUCATE THAT DID MAKE SLEEPING BAGS IN THE USA FOR NOT LISTENING SO ONCE AGAIN THEY GIVE ME A CHRISTMAS PRESENT. THEY DO IT EVERY YEAR AND IT GETS BETTER AND BETTER!
