another supposed sleeping bag maker

YET ANOTHER DOWN SLEEPING BAG MANUFACTURER

The company is Vango and I never heard of them. I have been in the business since 1961 so why haven’t they been visible to the USA market?

Since 1966 we've set the pace.

About Vango

Vango was established in the West of Scotland in 1966 and we remain based at the gateway to the spectacular Scottish Highlands. The Highlands continue to encourage us to push ourselves, and our kit, to the limits. Vango has a long and memorable history in designing and manufacturing outdoor equipment. We endeavour to be at the forefront of cutting edge design and innovation within the outdoor and camping world, an ambition which we have continued to strive for since the beginning of our journey.

If they were setting the pace since 1966 at some point during the last 40 years would their name have been known in the USA. I sell probably more search and rescue teams in Scotland, my hypothermia bag than any other company, maybe because people in Scotland going into the highlands with Vango down sleeping bags are getting into trouble.

I became aware of this company from a British publication I received today. It seems this Company was given an award by ISPO (a outdoor trade show that takes place in europe) for their newwest development of an electrical assist pad made from graphene thst fits in their sleeping bags.

When I researched this award worthy sleeping bag called a “radiate sleeping bag” I learned that you had to have their portable power bank that you hooked a USB fitting to it or you could plug it into an outlet at a camp ground.

Going through the web site I also learned that they use down that has been treated with wáter repellency that they claim causes their down to and I quote; “stays drier four time longer than non-treated down”. Every American Company that sells treated down sleeping bags and the one or two down processors in America have never made that claim in the past four years or so that treated down has been used.

I know the reason the American companies haven’t claimed that. Once a person gets into a down sleeping bag or jacket the down if not treated which is the case with most down sleeping bags and jackets due to the Price increase to get one of these products the down almost immediately starts to absorb the moisture form the occupant. If you have one of these products with treated down the absorption process starts with in five minutes which is four times longer tan non-treated down. Could it be the the American companies already know this and chose not to publish this information.

The following statement from them is a fabrication and said without thought. I quote; “We endeavour to be at the forefront of cutting edge design and innovation within the outdoor and camping world.” if they were as they claim at the forefront since 1966 at the time that Polar Guard the first continuous filament fiberfill product used for quality sleeping bags they should have been looking at using it. But here we are in the 2019 and they still think down an obolete form of insulation and from what I did see on their web site their synthetic bags contain chopped staple fiberfill. Therefore the statement is a contradiction. They do not endeavor to be at the forefront etc. They are not alone.

The reason I say they at Vango are not alone is because I read so many companies in America also claim that they are at the forefront of development, they like to say technology, but when it comes to insulating materials not a one has moved past the early 1960’s when chopped staple fiberfill was introduced into the market place. Prior to then down was being used. The reality about down is that the problems people experience today was happening back in the 1930’s when Eddie Bauer was making down filled sleeping bags and jackets.

Each winter season every companythat makes the claim they have the newest and warmest insulation is simply using the same old fiberfills or down that has proven to not work or work very well. I expect that will be the same this coming winter as it was last winter. What these people do not understand is the insulation is the most important component of their products and they blatantly refuse to make any effort to learn about insulations for their own benefit to make the best products that they can make.
