SINGLE PERSON BIVI SHELTER

The history of the single person bivi shelter goes back to the early 1990’s when a chief of the security force located at Pope A.F.B. S.C. made contact with me requesting what is now the single person bivi shelter.

He needed something that was light in weight and very flexible for temperatures for his men. It took about 2 months of working with him to make a product that would work for his needs.

In reality it has worked well for numerous people over the years and is the best bivi shelter there is.

When I decided to change it from a non-waterproof layer of Lamilite with a waterproof fly over it to just the DUCKSBACK fabric it was improved substantially.

Wiggy’s is now supplying the DUCKSBACK version to the first Air Force base, they ordered 85.

The product in a way has come full circle. It is the insulated version that they have ordered.

My very biased opinion of the single person bivi shelter is that it is by far the best bivi shelter on the market. Just remember every other bivi bag including the bivi bq that I used to make had condensation build up, today the bivi bq made with DUCKSBACK material just like the single person bivi does not have the condensation problem. You see the DUCKSBACK material is vapor permeable and no other bivi can be described the same way since all of them are not vapor permeable.

If I wasn’t seeing this for myself I could not imagine a single fabric making so much improvement to so many products; mostly clothing products.

Over the next few months I will be showing on the web site more and more items that will have the DUCKSBACK fabric as the shell material. The one that I have been thinking of most recently which will be the next item is a balaclava. Of course the insulation is the Lamilite L-3. It will be available in all three current colors. I have over the last few years been asked about a hat so this will be my first and maybe only venture into the hat market.

The military is looking for a new cold weather clothing system. I have made an L-8 Lamilite insulated Antarctic parka with an L-3 zip in liner as well as an L-3 zip in vest. All three garments can be integrated into one for -40 degree temperatures. Each garment can be worn by itself or any two can be joined. All three of these garments have the DUCKSBACK material as the shell fabric. The complete ensemble is $620.00. At present it is not on the web site so anyone interested should call me. There is always a chance that the military will look favorably at a Wiggy’s product knowing that it will out- perform everything else they have going. I can only “hope”. Then again hope springs eternal
