A READER’S RESPONSE TO THE BS INSULATION AND A DESCRIPTION OF THE GARMENTS
The garments are thin and quilted. Multiple layers of garments will be required to achieve sufficient R value for cold conditions. Yes, buy lots of garments, please! If the "locked" insulation lattice they imagine actually existed then why would it need to be quilted? Maybe locked = quilted. Ha-ha. The fuzz shown in their graphic will certainly clump and mat when worn and laundered. It appears this stuff was introduced two years ago. I guess if it were much to get excited about it would have happened by now. 'Climbing' magazine rated one of these OR garments on par with a fleece layer but worse in that the shell fabric was delicate and easy to tear. They summed up by saying "it's not a one-stop-shop jacket, so you'll still need another down coat, plus base layers and a hard-shell". Sounds like a solid bargain. Way to go Outdoor Research!

Pete is a long time customer and never ceases to surprise me with his long time knowledge of the industry. He surprised me with this e mail knowing not only about the nonsense but that he has seen the jackets. I thought they were yet to be on the market.
His description of the garments and further information is telling that the garments will not keep you warm but are made using poor quality fabrics.
Once again, this company like so many others selling products to people who venture into the outdoors and of course those who don’t are offered products that do not function as advertised. The real problem that those who do go into the outdoors is when they realize what they have purchased does not perform as advertised. Unfortunately, a plethora of products on the market today serving both the outdoor marketplace as well as the general consumer market do not stand up to their advertised capabilities.
Why is that [?] because so many of the companies serving the marketplaces in general are part of conglomerates or multinationals and they are profit driven. CEO’s live with their CFO’s who hover over their cost accountants demanding to know how to cut costs versus how to make products better. The truth is the accountants have no idea how to do that. So, the CEO’s and the CFO’s sit in their board rooms getting bored. This is the reason nothing changes or is about to change anytime soon. Maybe the board room name should be changed to “bored room.”
Now for a testimonial about a products performance attesting to one of the greatest insulations capabilities ever; LAMILITE!!!
I finally broke
away from the daily grind to go camping for an evening on the western side of
the Big Horn mountains in northern Wyoming. It was early fall and my camp was
just below tree line, about 9800 feet.
I was really tired and fell asleep with the tent door open.
A quick storm blew through and dumped a large amount of cold rain. Before I
woke up, I was in a lake of water in my tent. My Antarctic sleeping bag kept me
completely warm and comfortable. Thanks, Wiggy!

David,
Your testimonial is timely.
