CALF JACKETS
I am not a farmer, but I have learned since living in western Colorado that this is the time of year when calves are born.
Recently a local rancher and a rancher in Oklahoma who had purchased a couple of calf jackets told me of the same experience. A calf being born and performing poorly and since the temperature was in the low 32’s they put them in their calf jackets and overnight they recovered.
The rancher in Oklahoma was calling to order two more, the rancher here in Colorado is local so he can pick one up as he needs them.
The calves like us generate their own heat from the small amount of muscle they have and the Lamilite traps their heat and dries them out so that helps them stay warm just as drying out in a Wiggy bag keeps us warm.
If it weren’t for a customer who has a dog jacket speaking with his cousin, a rancher about the dog jacket for calves I wouldn’t have known that there is a company that already sells them. I believe they are Asian made. That means they do not have Lamilite insulation obviously and certainly not durability, and the same price as mine.
Also, they are not made with high visibility orange 200 denier coated nylon as mine are.
So, if you are a rancher putting a poorly responding calf in on e of these jackets versus transporting the calf from the field may be the way to go.
