CIVIL SERVANT EMPLOYED BY THE GOVERNMENT WORKING FOR THE MILITARY
About 35 years ago I worked with the Air Force survival operation at Elmendorf AFB, AK. [Now JBER]
They needed a sleeping bag that could be vacuum packed to fit in the survival kits under the seats of the fighter jets.
There was a civil servant working at Kelly AFB in the section that approved the contents of the survival kits. Cecil [forgot his last name] would never approve of the sleeping bag down filled for some reasons I will not discuss.
I was working with a SR Master Sgt who grew tired of Cecil and asked what I could do. I sent him 3 bags to test in the field and whichever one worked I would vacuum pack. Whatever the size was he would have to live with. That was the start of my sales of vacuum-packed bags to the Air Force.
This jackass civil servant had a thing going where he never approves what was sent to him. Mine was not. He was playing with the lives of the pilots if they ever had to bail out. In my burn video you can see what happened to the down bag I received that was carried on the planes.
So, I learned about a civil servant that worked for the A.F. I learned from my days of trying to work with the people at the U.S. Army Natick Labs that the civilians that I was dealing with had no knowledge of insulation and how it works or how to make a sleeping bag. If they listened to me, they would all have had no reason to be employed, so, they never listened to me. It is called job security, never solve the problem. So much for civil servants.
Two weeks ago, I received a request to quote from EODMU3 Ventura, CA. I believe the person who wrote to me was a Sgt. He remains nameless. He knew what he wanted and the costs. What he needed from me is corroborating quote on my letterhead. So far nothing unusual. He then gave the quote on the Wiggy letterhead to Diane L. Wilson to make the purchase. She needed the quote sent to her even though she had the Sgt, copy as well as a signed form 889. I told her I would send it shortly.
I asked for a credit card for payment in the meantime, something I have done numerous times. Diane told me she will only give that number when I am ready to ship. These 6 bag systems had to be made, they were “left side zippered ULTIMA THULE which we do not have in stock, right side yes, and MULTICAM OVER BAGS, ALL LONG WIDE BODY SIZE also not a stock item”. COST PER SYSTEM $531.00. MY PRICE IS $425.00 EACH TO GET RID OF THEM.
I told her this is the first time in 30 years that this situation has come up. The Sgt told me he and Diane are going back and forth. So, I was able to make the 6 bag systems and let her know via email and for 4 days past I found out she was shopping for kelty Varicom systems. Diane told the Sgt. associate another Sgt. I am sure the following “she is pursuing another vendor who is claiming they have the varicom systems in stock”.
I was at this point that I realized that Diane was a civilian AND SHE WORKS FOR THE NAVY AS A CIVILIAN EMPLOYEE. Her email address has after her name CIV. So, I was not dealing with a military individual but a civilian, SHE HAS NO RANK. She has less knowledge of sleeping bags than a gnat, so she is intent on buying a product the the U.S Army discontinued in 2001 I believe but kelty’s parent exxel has continued to make all these years, actually I found out today it has been awhile since they made any.
It is important to know that the owners of exxel as well as all of their employees collectively have no knowledge of insulation or how to make sleeping bags. They are excellent at making NO SLEEP SLEEPING BAGS.
Now that you have read this newsletter, I want you to know that I am now selling these 6 sleep system to the first 6 who e mail me their name address and phone number so I can call you for your credit card. I WILL ONLY SELL ONE TO EACH PERSON.
I am not sure of it yet, but I just may refuse to quote any gsa contractor again unless they can show me the solicitation stating the Wiggy bag and no substitutes.
Imagine a no nothing putting the lives of those who protect them in danger.
The twit Diane wrote to me what she thought was an apology of sorts and told me she was getting product elsewhere. I then informed her that whatever she received was not even close to what I make.
More tomorrow.
