NON-COMBUSTIBLE SLEEPING BAG VIDEO
Today I made the video which should be on my you tube channel also today.
It is also very self-evident the findings. The only thing I thought about after the video was finished pertains to the down bag that burned. I do not know what the down fill power rating was for down used in the bag, but I do know the material used was heavier than the 70-denier nylon fabric I use. Therefore, the downs lofting ability was compromised. Today the down bag manufacturers use 30 and 40 deniers down which is parachute quality cloth. Being as light as it is the down bags, I use what they claim 700 or 800 fill power which pushes the nylon up as much as possible as the down lofts. What you have is more air trapped in the down which would contribute more to flammability.
I also spoke with my friend who investigated the tragedy of the two soldiers dying who were basically burned alive and he confirmed to me they were in the same Korean sleeping bags that were made from cotton shells and down filled. I assumed as much since that was the same bag I used when I was in the army.
We both agreed that I should make a video of two bags in a present day nylon tent with two Wiggy’s bags in the tent to find out how well the bags would protect someone if at all by staying in the bag in the event of the tent catching fire.
If I were to make such a video, I will let the chips fall where they may with respect to how well if at all my bags survive and if they do survive is staying in the bag the best thing to do? We will see.
Enjoy the video and nominate me for an Oscar.
