Cookie lived 11 years and 6 months—equivalent to about 80 human years. Her time with me was a blink of the eye.
It is Saturday morning the first Saturday she is not with me at the factory which we always came so she could run in the field in the back of the building. I had her cremated so she is with me in the office.
Her death was due to an enlarged heart which caused water build up in her lungs. Three days before she died the vet showed me x-rays of the enlarged heart, with thin walls as well as the water accumulation. She always slept with me so on Tuesday I spent the whole day in bed with her, Wiggy’s could wait. I awoke at 12:45 AM Wednesday morning to hear her final breaths in my arms.
I did some research into cause of death since and learned that poodle have a high incidence of enlarged heart, etc. She was the love of my life. She was a trained service dog and in retrospect she was a service dog for me from the time I got her. This is a realization to me now as to how important she was to me.
I am very sure there are many millions who have had this same experience, I am not alone.
As you know Kok and Pum have lived with me since the stroke, they moved into take care of Cookie and never left. Very quickly I was asked if I would get another dog and I said I am 82 I would die before another dog and would leave her [only a female] to be take care of by them. Pum was asking me about dogs and I told the poodles do not shed and females are easier than males. It appears that they talked about me getting another dog to once again have a companion. Bless their hearts for thinking this way. I just don't know at this moment.
I just look at the many pictures i have and the video of her in my u-tube videos. I also have the memories and the support of my Wiggy's family who also miss her since they got to see her daily.
I want to thank all of you for listening.
Jerry
