MORE COOLING TECHNOLOGY?
The following article was reprinted from the British textile publication “sporttextiles”. It seems that cooling and heating technology is going hog wild in the world today. This one is staying on the earth.
HeiQ upgrades its smart cooling technology
Swiss textile effects provider HeiQ will present an upgraded
version of its Smart Temp dynamic cooling technology at the Performance Days
exhibition in Munich (April 18-19).
The technology was launched in 2011 and is now used in products from more than
50 major brands. HeiQ has described Smart Temp as its “most popular
technology”.
If this is so how come I haven’t
heard of it before?
The new version, which HeiQ calls Adaptive AC-06, features an instant cooling
hydro functional polymer that is activated when the skin temperature exceeds
the range of 28 degrees Celsius and 31 degrees Celsius. It is then deactivated
once cooling is complete.
28 degrees C = 82.4 degrees
F----31 degrees C = 87.8 degrees F----- Is it possible that Europeans have
lower skin surface temperature than Americans. Our skin surface temperature is
91degrees F. whatever the polymer is it would never deactivate when the garment
made with it is worn by an American.
The body temperature of the wearer is regulated by two actions. Firstly, a
melting action, which HeiQ has said sends an “instant cooling impulse directly
away from the skin”. A second vaporising action transports sweat away from the
body.
I have never heard of a “melting
action” that send an “instant cooling impulse directly away from the skin”. If you
stand in front of a fan the sweat will vaporize and obviously move away from
your body. I think one needs waders and a shovel at this time.
HeiQ’s in-house testing has shown that fabric treated with this new version of
Smart Temp results in a skin temperature that is cooler by 1.5 degrees Celsius
to 2.5 degrees Celsius compared to an untreated fabric.
In house testing is easily
manipulated to be whatever you want it to be. Otherwise you can refer to it a
complete nonsense.
Activated Cooling – Temperature management on fabric activated by high skin temperature
Cools only when needed – How does it know to do this? Is you were to ask them how this happens you would receive a BLANK for an answer.
Cooling activated by high skin temperature. What is new about this? They also do not know that the moisture, sweat, is what cools you.
Perfect balance of temperature in changing conditions and activity level. It is always in balance.
1.5°C-2.5°C / 2.7°F-4.5°F reduced skin temperature (compared to untreated fabric / depending on fabric weight). As the expression goes, this statement is like “horse hockey chips.
When hot, HeiQ Smart Temp cools down the wearer by vaporizing moisture and removing body heat. When chilly, this innovative technology helps to retain body heat on light fabrics. This comment has been used so long it should not only been dead but also buried. Still wearing the waders and using that shovel?
What this company does, is put a synthetic material, polymer, on any fabric and make the wild ass claim that it does something that it cannot do. The polymer is a plastic which reacts very quickly to temperature and if it is hot that is what you feel from it and if it is cold that is also what you will feel. They cannot prove one of their statements is actually provably. It fits into the same category as 100 percent of all the materials claiming the same actions that came before it and since as is known about waterproof breathable. None of this gobble goop can be proven. Buying any garment that has a hangtag on it that says it will do what is claimed is nothing less than a waste of money.
