Today I read an article about cooling vests from a stay cool vest company.

They make a pouch on each side of the vest that you insert a packet that has to be frozen. These packets on average will last 3 hours I was told when I spoke with them. Then you would have to go home and get a new set of packets from the freezer or you could carry them in a cooler. They should change the name of the product to “part time cooling vest”.

Welcome to America where one can come up with an idea and even if it is a bogus idea the maker of the product can offer it for sale. THAT IS WHAT THIS COOLING VEST IS, BOGUS!!!

To make things worse the lining and the shell are nylon fabrics. All synthetic material in a hot environment will heat up to the ambient air temperature and wearing any synthetic fabric garment worn in hot weather will add to being uncomfortable.

Wearing this vest will surely retain the moisture coming out of your body, you know sweat. Where does it go, no place? I believe you will become more uncomfortable in short order.

All of the materials that are marketed these days guaranteeing you that they will make you comfortable are equally as bogus because they are all synthetic.

If you really want to stay cool there is but one fabric that has been around for several thousand years and it is cotton. It in and of itself does not get to be more than the ambient air temperature. When you sweat it absorbs the sweat and via conduction it move the sweat from your skin to the outside where it evaporates. It is also absorbing your body heat and moves it away as well.

Simply put the best way to stay cool during the heat wave is to wear cotton garments.
