SWINDLE
verb(usedwithobject), swindled,swindling.
1.
to cheat (a person, business, etc.) out of money or other assets.
2.
to obtain by fraud or deceit.
3. to
put forward plausible schemes or use unscrupulous trickery
to defraud others; cheat. Recently
I have written about the great American con job or scam about the waterproof
breathable fictitious application on material that does not work and the word I
forgot to add to the list is swindle. The
following press release brought it to mind. When I read this press release I looked
up Green Theme International and called them. I spoke to a fellow named Jordan
and asked if their process was not only waterproof but was it also vapor
permeable? For a moment he was confused, but had I said “breathable” he would immediately
have known what I was referring too. He finally responded gleefully “yes”.

Marmot adopts ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX® certified waterproof technology by Green Theme International
LIGONIER, IN – February 2, 2018 – The Hohenstein Group recently verified an innovative DWR finish from Green Theme International™ in line with the requirements of the ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX® certification system. Outdoor brand Marmot has been the first now to implement GTI’s Aquavent waterless treatment for breathable water protection in its new flagship rain jacket, EVODry.
Notice the headline states “certified waterproof” and the copy states “breathable water protection”.
I do not know how large these companies are but I do know they have absolutely no way of proving this claim outside of their testing laboratories. It appears to me all levels of the textile industry involved with the production of the fictitious w/b concept perform as one. Every testing laboratory comes up with the same result and every outerwear manufacturer utilizes those results exactly the same way. This information is then given to all the retailers in the world actually to sell the finished garments to unsuspecting consumers. They are giving the consumer the “promise” that the garment will work as all who preceded them in the line from testing materials to selling the finished garment claim.
To my way of thinking the consumer is being cheated out of their money via fraud and/or deceit; in other words they are being swindled. It is like a conspiracy, what do you think? That is my opinion!!!
These companies are now and have been for 40 years trying to do the impossible. Once the finished garments are worn by humans active in the field start to sweat they learn very quickly that their sweat goes nowhere.
With respect to the ultimate consumer; you can like a horse be led to the water trough but the drinking is up to you!!!
