MORE ABOUT DRY SUIT INSULATED UNDERWEAR
I decided to do some research into this form of underwear and learned that the companies that market dry suit insulated underwear are very remiss in understanding what type of fabrics they should be made from.
I believe the people who run these companies do not use logic because using logic means that one has to exercise the activity of thinking.
From what I have read about the materials used; they are thinsulate, fleece and in one case goretex. Each and every one of these fabrics enjoys the same fault; they keep the moisture that is emitted by the human body next to it. You would think that these people would by now have learned that a dry suit will very successfully keep the water from the lake, river or ocean out of the suit and will keep the water from the human body inside the suit. The problem with all underwear made with these materials will ultimately create a situation that will cause you at some point to get a chill.
The moisture from the human body will without fail condense and when it touches your skin lo and behold you get a chill.
Human body produced moisture otherwise known as sweat is safe and desirable on your skin when the temperature exceeds 75 degrees and very dangerous on your skin when the temperature is 40 degrees and lower. Have these companies ever experimented with materials that have the capability to not interfere with the movement of body produced moisture from moving away from you? I suspect the answer is NO! Have they ever asked the representatives of gore, 3-m or polarfleece if they have ever experimented with their materials in the environment of being in a dry suit what effect their material has on the movement of said body produced moisture?Again I am positive the question has not been posed? And the answers are NO and NO!
The reality is as far as I am concerned none of the individuals involved actually thinks about the ability of their product to work. They are all more concerned about putting a product on the market that sounds like it will work and look good; now enter the creative writing people at these companies.
I also took note of the prices that these products retail for; $100.00 plus all the way to $600.00.Someone has to pay the advertising bill!
The basic garment that I intend to make will not be any more fashionable than the other garments I make but I believe those who have used some of the products currently available who then try mine will find they will be warmer and ultimately more comfortable than in the products they now use.
It appears to me that no matter what direction I examine when it comes to helping the human body stay comfortable regardless of the activity I find a total lack of logic being used in the manufacture of these products. The people involved just do not think about what they are making or want to make. They seem to shoot from the hip, versus taking aim and examining the materials that are available and not listening to material salesman who went to the 1850’s school for “snake oil salesman”.
