Rarely am I completely surprised, but today I am!

I got my Ducksback Alaska Range Parka and Liners today. This is so completely not what I was expecting I'm actually floored.

This is the lightest warmest parka I have ever put on. Holy cow is it light. When I picked the box up I honestly thought there was another box coming. Every other parka I have ever worn was heavy and bulky... So I got it out, ran through all the permutations of components. The workmanship is excellent. Very nicely designed and put together.

I tried it on, the fit is good, you were right on the sizing advice, and I appreciate it. I tried it on with both the L-3 and L-6 liners installed, it's wonderful, but the L-6 came out pretty quickly as it warms up fast. I love it already.

I love the way you designed the pockets as well. It took me a minute, but they are easy to get into and whatever goes in there will likely still be dry when you go after it. Very nicely done!

While I've been hoping winter is over, now I am kind of wishing we get one more blizzard, just so I can go play in my parka. ;)

I await the next letter from Vincent about the water resistance he is going to experience from the performance of the Ducksback material.

Wiggy’s as I have stated is now in its 30^th year of operation and I have been receiving letters of this positive nature for the 30 years I have been in business. Before there was emails there were hand written letters of which I have several hundred.

My reason for mentioning them has to do with the fact; reality is how much pride I take in the products that I make and being told by my customers how well they work and what they think of the quality that my staff is doing. I can dream up lots of items but if not for the staff putting all of the pieces together as they do would mean that I have done nothing. So I am very thankful for the efforts that each of them lends to the products made at Wiggy’s which is appreciated by our many customers such as Vincent as well as the hundreds more who have written to me.

I have never read anything of this nature published by any other company in the outdoor business for the 50 years I have been in it. Is it because they do not get such compliments? The answer is I believe yes; meaning that they do not get these testimonials. If they did wouldn’t they want to tell the world what people say about their products. The long and short of it is they do not get complimentary letters!!!

When it comes to sleeping bags each season those companies that market them have a new color and a new insulation because it is supposedly an improvement over the prior seasons insulation. The reality is they all use only chopped staple fiberfill and from what I have seen when I buy one of their bags it is the CHEAPEST money can buy. So they do change the colors to try and sell a new neither look for a bag that does not nor will it ever work at whatever temperature they assign to it or them.

When it comes to down they reference fill power from 500 to 1000 when in fact there is only about 500 fill power all the rest are figments of their imagination. Then they say the down is now water proof and guess what it isn’t. But even if it were the insulation capability is erroneous.

I mention all of this as we approach the spring of the year when people begin to think about camping. Just remember if you happen to buy one of these “no sleep sleeping bags” your camping trip may very well be shortened or become more expensive since you may wind up in a motel. Not very encouraging to contemplate!

As for my attitude I want my customers to have a good time when they chose to go camping so I believe they must have the proper sleeping bag for the environment they are going to experience. The sleeping bag IS your most important piece of gear!!! If you do not stay warm you don’t sleep and if you don’t sleep the first night what makes you think succeeding nights will be different? My bags are conservatively rated to cover the unexpected drop in temperature so when you wake up and see the temperature is lower that the bag is rated for all you know is you slept which does not happen with any other brand of bag because they are outrageously over rated.

But then again the outdoor industry over rates or embellishes everything for the most part that they offer, why so they can come out with the “new and improved” product in the following year.

Do not ever forget that Wiggy’s uses the most efficient insulation ever devised for use in clothing and sleeping bags and it is far from the least expensive, it is the most expensive (that is why the other companies do not use it) and that insulation is Lamilite/Climashield. That is what sets Wiggy’s apart from all of the other companies that offer insulated products that they call sleeping bags and winter clothing the use of Lamilite /Climashield continuous filament fiberfill, never chopped.
