DUCKSBACK FABRIC
Because of the over whelming comments from customers who have been wearing a Ducksback jacket or other garment saying that my customers will gladly pay the extra money for a Ducksback garment I should not discontinue making products with the fabric.
I went back to the mill and asked if they would share the increase in cost, and if so, I would not only not stop buying the fabric but would increase the number of styles I currently make with the Ducksback fabric. They agreed and I gave them an order on the spot. I expect delivery around the first of the new year so I will not be out of stock; period.
All of the garments presently made with Supplex will be changed to Ducksback.
I will keep the 25 percent sale in place for Ducksback products until the end of the year on all existing products. After then the prices will return to what they were before the discount; even though the cost is a little higher for the fabric I will absorb the increase in cost.
Shortly I will publish the prices for the Supplex garments changed to Ducksback. However the one parka that I can offer at this time in Ducksback and not change the price is the Antarctic parka, it will stay at the $410.00 price and the Antarctic bib price will remain the same at $350.00.
Now to speak about the Ducksback material. As I wrote I have had a raincoat made from this material since I believe September 2011 and have initially noted that the fabric truly shed water like coming off of a duck’s back. That said since I have been making jackets and other garments with it those of my customers who purchased these garments have written to me, and as my readers know, I have published these email letters extolling how well the fabric has performed. They my customers have provided me with all of the information I needed to continue to use the Ducksback material.
It has far exceeded anything I could have found out myself because the several now thousand owners of Ducksback shell garments combined have had many more experiences than me. Why (?) because they are out and about while I am here in my office and just don’t do what I used to do since I am getting older.
The Ducksback material has also demonstrated that it is far more durable a material than I thought.
So, based on the success of the fabric it will continue to be used by Wiggy’s.
My opinion is that the Ducksback material actually does what gore and all of their copycats like to say about their products. As we now know water in the form of rain just runs down the fabric and does not stick to the fabric to wet out. I suppose that could happen since the fabric is not waterproof but water resistant. Another interesting fact that I have observed has to do with lining the garments with a thin layer of Lamilite. With the lightest weight garments where I use the L-3 Lamilite if you are perspiring in the garment the perspiration will stay in a vapor state and migrate through the lining, the Lamilite and when it reaches the shell fabric; Ducksback it may very well condense. If so, it will not touch you so getting a chill is mitigated. All of the other companies that make goretex or whatever rain garments do not understand that without the layer of thin insulation condensation takes place and you get a chill when your own body moisture trapped in the garment touches your skin.
The more I think about it the more I realize that I now sell garments that do pretty much what bobby gore and all the rest of the lot of charlatans have claimed for 50 years only better because you stay comfortable in a Ducksback Lamilite garment. That is not the case with any goretex or goretex like garment. Maybe bobby should buy one of my garments to find out what it is like to be comfortable is a water resistant/vapor permeable jacket.
I am actually glad that so many pushed me to keep the Ducksback fabric so I now have a material that is an excellent complement to the Lamilite.
Wearing the Lamilite socks again today as it was 14 degrees this morning.
