AN EXCEPTIONAL EMAIL STORY TO START MY DAY
New Urban Parka for Mama
Just received the new blue parka today, two weeks before it was expected. My wife is overjoyed at the color and fit. I went over every seam, as I did when we got our two FTRSS bag systems, quilt, TV blanket and both sweaters and head warmer. I'm always amazed at the quality. Stitching is parallel, never strays from the straight. Looking at the Ducksback fabric for the first time, it looks to be coated. So, I tested it by exhaling and inhaling through it. Sure enough, it is permeable! I poured water on it over the sink, and it acts like it is hydrophobic...runs right off without leaving any trace of moisture. Now we'll see how durable it is long term. If it is like the other Wiggy's we have, I'm expecting to last a long time.

Hi Jerry, I’m not in the business but one could think of online sales maybe down the road after I retire.
I will be ordering a bag for myself as I do a lot of winter camping/ backpacking. You explain your product very well & because of that you would not need to advertise the quality speaks for itself. As you well describe of other manufacturers of bags make body bags, I know I’ve spent waking nights in them.
It is a credit to you for making a product that is second to none & sticking by same.
Kind regards, Tom.
This second testimonial arrived as I was writing the newsletter.
I think back years ago when I was asked by a so called friend to make him a sleeping bag. Actually, I made 2 but never gave him one. About a year later when I was actually selling my sleeping bags, he said they were too good, would to long so, I wouldn’t have repeat customers. What did that sucker back then know about quality and performance and it is what people spending their money want.
This guy had been a sales representative for the original Sierra Designs company that like the rest of the outdoor product manufactures never gave consideration of the quality of their products because they did not want them to last. Most all of those companies are gone. Now their name continue and their lack of quality does as well. The names are owned by conglomerate’s today. Like all conglomerates they do not have people with any knowledge, foundation who know their knee from their elbow about making sleeping bags.
It is unfortunate that new people getting into the activity of camping go into retail stores like rei, Moosejaw, sheels to name a few who carry every brand they can so the consumer who has little or no knowledge of sleeping bags does not get any help from the store employees. The store employees have no knowledge of the how’s and whys of sleeping bags themselves.
If the manufacturer [loose term, since the no sleep sleeping bags are made mostly in China] knew anything about what they put in a retail store they should educate the seller of their product. That is not done because the manufacturer hasn’t a clue.
The large conglomerates have only one thing on their mind, the bottom line, the retail chains I have noted to have the exact same mind set, the bottom line. There is zero concern in educating the customer service representative because there is no one up the chain of command who has any knowledge to begin with.
I get calls all the time from people asking all different questions, the most often is about flame retardant chemical treatment of Wiggy bags and the answer is an unequivocal no. But I was told rei sells them. So, I went to the rei website and in the search, box typed in flame retardant sleeping bags and it brought up 3 from an Australian company I know getting their no sleep sleeping bags from China that are FR treated. Maybe these callers have seen the same advertised bags.
I am ending this newsletter by saying I proudly publish all of these compliments about the quality of the Wiggy products and that credit goes to my partner Kok, for without him I might be back on a boat. I also take a great deal of pride in sharing my knowledge all who call wanting to know about Wiggy’s bags and why they should buy one. I am quite sure there are some in the industry who claim to be potential buyers but are just looking for information. Once they get it there is nothing, they can do with it.
Tomorrow I will publish our selection of Barron Grounds parkas.
