AN INTERSTING RESPONSE TO LAST NIGHTS COMMENTARY
Hi Jerry -
I looked at the questions and answers about this boot on the web site and found
the following:
Are these insulated at all?

This boot is worse than I thought it could be.
The question I have deals with how successful the boot has sold since they apparently have been selling them for 3 years? Have they been selling so well that they have had to reorder or as I very strongly suspect sales have been so slow that they have a large enough inventory that re-orders are and have been non-existent; that is what I believe.
As many of you know Cabela’s has been open since the late 1950’s I think and under the guidance of the Cabela brothers they grew to a billion dollar company. They catered to hunters primarily even though they started out with fishing tackle. They sold very good products because they had buyers who knew the hunter. They even carried Wiggy’s bags. When the company went public they sent out all the rules that a supplier had to follow to do business with them. One rule was if I made a mistake and sent one bag to many or less they were going to dun me $150.00. I called the buyer and cancelled about $30.000.00 worth of orders because number one I did not realize that of all the Cabela’s employees none made mistakes and two the only people I knew of that did not make mistakes were dead. At that time my bags were the bestselling and highest price bag they ever sold.
The Wall Street corporate guys took over and they knew better than the buyers. It has taken time but as we have seen the company is now owned I guess by Bass Pro. Considering the purchase price as was reported of 4 ½ billion bucks, there must be significant unsold inventory to include these boots. Do you think Gore somehow guarantees the manufacturer and retailer that they will make good if boots with their component falls flat on its face even though the boot has the Gore-Tex in it? Don’t hold your breath on the answer.
As far as I now know this boot has never been talked about. It should have remained a secret.
I am interested to see if the Bass Pro people can make it work. Based upon what I have gleaned about the way Bass Pro does things; I did try and sell them on carrying Wiggy’s some years ago, but never did get a return call from the buyer or any assistant. They preferred the Chinese made bags. It matters not if they actually perform as advertised, which they do not do, as long as the margin is there.
At some point in the near future much of what is sold in these stores will probably be available on amazon. Much sporting goods products are already on amazon as evidenced by the fact that Dick’s is advertising that they will beat any price that is found on amazon or at target or even Macy’s.
Welcome to the world of retailing. By the way I have been solicited by amazon numerous times and I do not even respond to them.
