New quality label for outdoor clothing systems

A new quality label for sports and outdoor textiles by specialist research and testing firm Hohenstein has been designed to evaluate claims made by manufacturers of baselayer, midlayer and outer shell layer clothing systems to help reassure consumers of articles’ suitability for activity before they buy.

Technical performance such as “thermoregulation” to DIN CEN/TR 16422 standard, plus basic functional breathability, sweat management, air permeability and water-repellent properties, will all be assessed as a prerequisite for the awarding of each Hohenstein Performance Index label, the company said.

Hohenstein, headquartered in south-west Germany, currently operates testing labs in other countries around the world.

The hoho institute as far as I know does not now nor has ever manufactured any products, but as we have seen over the past 10 or 15 years that I have reported on them they sincerely believe they can do testing and make comments about textile products that I suppose influence actual companies that manufacture products or have them made for them in factories around the world. That takes GALL AND BALLS!

They think so highly of themselves that they have the audacity to believe they can offer a new quality label of their own to put on some company’s garments. What is not stated in the article is their cost for doing the testing and the cost of the labels.

They have no knowledge of what they are talking about on all subjects and the one I am specifically knowledgeable of is “thermoregulation.” In a house you have a thermostat that can control the temperature of the house. That is “thermoregulation.’’ In a garment thermoregulation is impossible.

As for the other subjects they will be assessing, well let’s just say they are full of s**t.

I can only imagine that failing companies will do what ever they can to get sales even if it is using bogus information as usual coming from the hoho institute.
