WIGGY’S GROUND PADS AND WATER
One more time water is a problem that you must deal with when you go into the bush camping.
I have been making ground pads for 20 years using densified polyester fiberfill as the padding. Many people will question how the pads react to water. Aside from getting wet they perform the same as they do when dry.
How many of you sleep on a water bed? The reason I ask is because the other day I was watching “how it’s made” television program and they had a segment about the manufacture of water beds. To my surprise they showed what I believe was densified polyester batting being slipped into the vinyl. It appeared to be about the same thickness as my luxury ground pad densified polyester batting.
I suspect the water bed manufacturer who was filmed (they do not give company names so I do not know which one it was) probably tried foam before trying the densified polyester batting.
The foam used by companies that sell ground pads when immersed in water collapse. They attach to water like a sponge. I believe the purpose of the densified polyester is to give better shape and additional comfort.
I have no idea how long this company has been including the densified polyester in their water beds but I do know that it is a permanent component. The densified polyester fiber is not affected by the water.
The original use as far as I know for densified polyester fiberfill batting was the cushioning in futons it may have replaced the foam that had been used for years, or it was just used in better quality futons. But I do know it is more comfortable as well as longer lasting.
If you are looking for a ground pad that is more comfortable with better insulation from the ground and is also oblivious to water just like the Wiggy’s bags then you want a Wiggy’s ground pad.
A TESTIMONIAL JUST RECEIVED
Thank
you Mr Wiggy for helping me with your information on my zipper on my sleeping
bag. You instructions worked great. Again, the finest sleeping bag I have ever
owned.
Fred
I do not recall his exact problem but I am glad his bag is okay for more use.
