hammock camping

ARE YOU A HAMMOCK CAMPER, IF SO THE FOLLOWING TESTIMONIAL IS WHAT YOU SHOULD READ

This seems like it’s becoming the new normal that when I go camping and sleep in the Allegheny Mountains the weather changes overnight on a dime. I am using a top of the line Jungle hammock tent since I like being off the ground. It has a mesh canopy cover and also a zip in weather shield and tarp.

The weather at night the last two of three times I have gone was warm and in the fifties and clear so I just had the mesh over me. I place a mattress pad underneath me (yes it slides a little but works ok) the hammock is four season because of pockets beneath supposed to be ok to 32 without a pad but I like to be warm.

A few years ago I had a similar trip and to save space bought a high rated bargain 20 degree down bag on sale to take instead of my Wiggy’s 20 degree bag. It was supposed to be dry and warm. Well overnight the temps dropped 30 degrees and damp fog and dew rolled in about a degree above freezing. I was fully buttoned down in a four season hammock with a pad and a 20 degree down bag with fleece on and I was near hypothermic when I awoke. The cold damp conditions penetrated my tent and the bag and kept my condensation from leaving.

Thankfully I was a few miles from my car and hiked out another night I would have been an ice cube.

Fast forward I now always take my Wiggys bag. I have several go to be my 20 degree bag. I just returned from two mountain trips and both had a similar cold and fog front come in overnight and I just had my mesh deployed. I was awoken both times by a morning peep and opened my eyes to foggy wetness and water dripping off my mesh canopy right on the Wiggy bag! I could have drunk from the puddles. Inside I was warm, dry, and toasty and slept like a baby. Both times what a difference! I worked for an outdoor chain for five years in the early nineties and have tried or owned all the gear. I always grab my Wiggy's bag and this hammock tent.

Another revelation has been Wiggy's fishnet long johns. Try hiking nine miles in in 35 degree weather in the mountains and not be wet then stop and get hypothermic. I was always adding a layer taking one off and still when I stopped got chilled the moisture was on my skin. Well hiking with Wiggy's fishnet long johns and a fleece and non-waterproof outer shell I could see the moisture literally coming out and turning into vapor when I stopped. It was the coolest yet warmest thing and I was dry and warm.

My wife laughs at me in the long johns and rolls her eyes when I get well now Eight Wiggy’s bags (2/35, 2/20, 1 zero, a 45 degree quilted, one for my son, and now a new hammock bag on order for my regular hammock.. But I always have a Wiggy’s

Bag for the situation and one for a friend in need or my wife. They don’t wear out and most importantly they keep me safe and warm and I sleep like a baby in the woods when it’s cold and damp and foggy.

I can say I have tried every pair of long underwear out there I could afford to stay warm and for casual use when you are not hiking in the woods with pack they are ok in low intensity use. But start generating moisture and you’re in a world of hurt when you stop if it’s wet and damp and chilly.

Thanks Wiggy for affordable American Made products that work and keep me safe and warm and allow me to sleep in the woods. Two high ends down bags would have cost me as much as all my Wiggy’s bags and I could not wash them after every trip or keep them compressed in storage. What more can I say if you want to keep warm and dry and not suffer if it’s cold and wet buy a Wiggy’s bag and their fishnet long johns.

The above testimonial I could never have written because I have never hammock camped. So when I read this testimonial I had to pass it on .Chuck my sincerest thanks for your account of events and being a Wiggy’s customer.

A NEW USE FOR THE SHOE DRYERS

Wiggy,

I’ve found a new use for the boot dryers you sent with your Lamilite boots (which I happen to love). The secondary use is to dry out my waders after a day of fly fishing. Since they get totally submerged they are soaked inside and out. The dryers work well to get the inside completely dry for another trip.

Jim- Atlanta

Much thanks to Jim for sharing another use for a Wiggy product that I would not know of since I do not fly fish.

I am very fortunate that so many of my customers over the past 30 years that I have been in Grand Junction, Colorado have taken the time to offer suggestions of how a product can be improved or as in the case of Jim an unexpected use of a product that is beneficial.

DECIET

Yesterday I called Polartec for an explanation of “lowering internal pressure” and never got to speak to anyone. I tried again today and spoke with a customer service person and found out that this person had no knowledge of where the pressure originated from. I was not surprised, but they took my name and number and e mail address to pass on to someone who knows (?) the answer. IF I get a call from them I’ll report what I was told.

Since I chose to give my real name and real e mail address they may put two and two together and not respond to my request of information. We shall see.
