SEEKING POWER OVER COMPANIES AS WELL AS EXTRACTING MONEY FROM THEM IS WHAT IS WANTED AND SO MANY COMPANIES COMPLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE FOLLOWING TWO ARTICLES ARE REPRINTED FROM THE SPORTSTEXTILE ON LINE MAGAZINE. I BELIEVE THE MAGAZINE ORIGINATES IN THE UK.

Textile Exchange adds social elements to revamped recycling standards

The US-based Textile Exchange has published Recycled Claim Standard 2.0 (RCS) and Global Recycled Standard 4.0 (GRS), which include significant updates agreed by recyclers, textile groups and brands.

Unifi, Hohenstein, H&M and Global Organic Textile Standard are among the working group members to have revised the guides over the past year.

The RCS and GRS provide verification of recycled materials, and then track the material through to the final product. The GRS includes additional social, environmental and chemical processing requirements.

A key change in both standards is the introduction of the Reclaimed Materials Supplier Agreement. This document provides more visibility to the suppliers of reclaimed materials.

A change in the Global Recycled Standard is the adoption of ZDHC’s Manufacturing Restricted Substance List v1.1. The MRSL has been developed by the industry to address intentional use of potentially hazardous substances. The MRSL will replace GRS’s previous Prohibited Substance List.

In 2016, the number of units certified to the GRS grew from 595 to 961, a growth of over 60%. The RCS saw an almost 200% jump from 78 units in 2015 to 220 in 2016.

Companies certified to one of the standards will be required to comply with the new versions by July 1, 2018.

Do you know who pays for all of the testing and certifications? You do every time you purchase a garment that has a tag on it that says made from recycled material. Virgin fibre is less money than recycled, why because it does not have to be cleaned and then re-melted in general put through the same process as it was when first made. Someone has to pay for the increase in cost, you when you buy that recycled garment.

I know that all of the large corporations that provide clothing to the consumer market at a cost are financial guys and they know that the virgin fibre is less expensive so they print as many recycled labels as they want and slap them on garments that are less costly to make and you and I do not know the difference.

The companies and organizations mentioned in the article have to justify their existence and this is just one more way. As far as I am concerned they are leeches and ultimately it is the consumer who is having his blood sucked away.

Polygiene seeks to make impact in new markets

Odour control technology provider Polygiene has announced a partnership with ECO Tech, a South Korea-based manufacturer of work gloves.

The partnership will see Polygiene’s permanent odour control technology incorporated into ECO Tech’s range of antibacterial work gloves.

The chief executive of Polygiene, Christian von Uthmann, said it would help the company to secure its position as “the market leader in odour control for workwear”, as well “reaching out to new customer segments”.

I live on an old farm and as such go through about 4 pair of work gloves a year. Now why would I want them to have an odor controlling chemical applied to the fabric they are made from? Grease and dirt are not offensive so why make an effort to control it. Of course the chemical will probably leach out when they get wet and maybe you develop cancer of the hands, not a good though is it?

However, as you read the last line of the article you get to know their motivation, workwear. That is a very big market to service, but why would anyone that wears a workwear think about personal odor? But maybe they are thinking of the office workers versus mechanics. Then the office worker will not need under arm deodorant.

Companies are always looking for an edge over their competition which I understand. Unfortunately the people who run these companies hire people to develop products and therein lay the problem. The people who do the hiring do not know if the people they hire can actually do the job because they themselves don’t know the job.

The hires in an effort to impress their bosses jump on the recycle and odor control wagon and the bosses eat it up.

All I use are first quality fibre made materials. All of the Wiggy products are so durable that their life expectancy is undetermined. At this time Wiggy’s is a 30 years old company and many customers have bags and now garments that are like the little pink battery bunny, they just keep working, actually longer than the batteries.
