I JUST DON’T GET IT
Last week the U.S Army testing laboratory published a sources sort notice for a “new” waterproof and breathable (vapor permeable) lining for boots.
Looking at the overall specifications that one has to meet is mind boggling but of no value. You see after all is said what will be done is a rehash of what they have been buying for the past 30 or more years.
I submitted a letter and samples of the two combinations of Lamilite that I use for footwear 1) the combination used for Lamilite socks and 2) the combination used as the lining in my Lamilite boots.
I explained from the get go in my cover letter that man has not nor in my opinion will ever create a material with each of the qualities they want. I then explained the how and why of using the Lamilite socks and lined boots solve the problem. I also included pictures of the socks, boots, overboots and mukluks noting the various temperatures that each combination will successfully perform too. I chose to send pictures rather than asking him to find these products on my web site. I am suspect that the individual would do that.
Time will tell if someone from the laboratory contacts me.
I have also been told that the U.S. Army is looking at improving the failed clothing worn by soldiers in Alaska. From what I have heard the laboratory is looking for miracles in the clothing they would ideally like to get. I think the laboratory people get to much bogus information from the likes of primaloft and Polartec companies.
Recently I was advised that the laboratory outfits the Vermont National Guard who runs the Mountain Warfare School with all of their new creations and as I am told the garments are basically failures. I see that as par for the course.
There is a line from an old folk rock song that applies here; “when will they ever learn”.
Beats me!
