This afternoon I received a call from an air force guy wanting a quote for my Antarctic bag, Ultima Thule bag and the Over bag a quantity of 12 systems complete. He told me they were going to the Brooks Range in Alaska.

He further told me he wanted them vacuum packed. I asked why? They were back up for other brands of bags they were getting from 3 other companies, western mountaineering, enlightenment and a third company he couldn’t remember. Just in case these other bags did not work, which is what they will learn.

I advised him of the fact that 3 guys in Brooklyn were now in jail for selling the military equipment made in China with USA labels and USA company labels. I told him the shells for these companies were made in China and the down was blown into the bags here. I can’t comment on the third company but who knows where their stuff is made.

Regardless, I told this kid he or who ever asked him to call me should go back to these companies and tell then Jerry Wigutow says they are full of s**t.

I informed him that All of the Air Force B-1,B-2, B-52 and all of the fighters with ACES-2 ejection seats had Wiggy’s bags in their survival kits.

Currently I am in production of snowsuits that are vacuum packed with mittens and mukluks for the Air Force; 200 to be precise. They have been using then from me for 20 or more years.

I also told him that a chief in the navy seal base in Kodiak Island Alaska switched from Wiggys to sierra desigs in 2001 and 12 of 16 SEAL had to be medivacked out of the boonies of Ft Richardson now JBER. I wrote up the incident and published to Anchorage Daily News article.

This new group at Cannon AFB where the call came from is just as dense as many who have proceeded them when it comes to sleeping bags.

I told this kid he or they were in fact wasting my tax dollars by buying products that do not work and is endangering the lives of the Air Force personnel who would be issued this stuff.

The fact that I am shipping this week 23 of the Antarctic systems to Eielson AFB Alaska might impress his higher ups or the fact that the cold weather training school in Greely Alaska has been using the Antarctic bag for 30 years might mean something.

If I do not hear back from Cannon AFB I do not care.

For about 2 months I have had email communication with a Lt. at Ft. Wainwright about 12 sets of Antarctic bags, mukluks, mittens, and socks.

After a silence of about 3 weeks, he needs a delivery time just for sleeping bags and mukluks. I asked how many and his response was 80 or 90 of each. I told him 3 months. With in one day, he writes back the funds were pulled, my opinion B/S.

Again, I do not care.

Wiggy’s is flooded with orders and my civilian consumer market is far and away more important to me. I get more calls today from people who have read good things about Wiggy products on web sites that I am very grateful for and to know. Maybe some of the soldiers will find out about me and leave the issue bags in their plastic bags.

Being an American made product that does not have to be investigated just doesn’t work for our military.
