is it confrontational?

RESPONDING TO YESTERDAYS ARTICLE.

I do not know if the following comments pertaining to yesterdays article is confrontational or simply questioning if things can be done differently.

Hi Jerry

I just read your latest newsletter about the mukluks ...

There is something I do not really comprehend, is:

why is it necessary for your Overboots or Mukluks to have both waterproofed shell and lining?

The shell is a very tough material that is best used when it has the urethane coating on it to keep the yarns together and so it will not get ripped apart when used I the field. The waterproofness is a benefit so water in the form of slush will not get into the mukluks. The lining is a 200 denier fabric that does get abuse from putting your foot in the mukluks with boots on so the fabric if coated will keep the yarns together for the same reason as the Cordora to also keep out moisture that will be put in the mukluks when using in snow or generally wet conditions.

I mean, if you are wearing Lamilite socks + leather boots, then overboots and next above that: Mukluks, (kind of flexible temperature rating shoe system here...)

Then the whole breathing process would be better without waterproof fabric at all, no?

Number one my products are VAPOR PERMEABLE, not breathable because they are not living entities. You have been conditioned to believe that inanimate material is alive and can breathe by the false advertising by the w.l. gore company and every other company on the planet that has copied them or buys their material for their own purpose, so one and all should get it out of their head that inanimate materials are alive.

The socks are vapor permeable as are my boots and once the vapor passes through the socks and my leather boots it no longer matters if the following layers are waterproof. So long as the moisture is touching your feet’s skin surface you will be fine. However, as previously explained it is necessary for the muk luks and over boots to be made from waterproof materials.

Moreover, if stream's water can run its way (via the sole seems) into the insulation (sandwiched within the waterproofed shell + lining),

how can it then go out? a breathable cordura would make more sense (since all the rest of the gear is also either breathable Ducksback or Supplex)

The water from the stream would have gotten in, in small amounts only because it would have to displace something which it could not do. You see I had the laces pulled tight so I would not float around in the mukluks. I needed to be steady on my feet. Then while I was walking that walking action would probably have pumped some of the water out of the mukluks.

The use of Ducksback and supplex was good, I would already have been using them. They are not durable enough for a mukluk or over boot product.

Otherwise, maybe the Overboots/ Mukluks should use Ducksback or Supplex too?

That was just answered.

just my 2 cents

Is it US currency? If so, it is worthless.

have a nice Sunday

I did thank you.

Frank

I give Frank thanks for posing his thoughts as it has given me an opportunity to further explain why my mukluks and over boots are second to no other cold weather footwear product made in the world. Just imagine having warm feet during the winter months wherever you live in the cold regions of the country or if you venture into cold regions of the country. Third hunting season starts this weekend and there is snow in the mountains so having probably the over boots will guarantee that your feet will be warm if you are in Colorado to hunt. Wednesday night it is said to be 10 here in Grand Junction. As for the high country it will be in the subzero range.

A BOOT STORY

Hi Jerry,

I bought a pair of the new brown boots last "winter/spring". I've got some time in them now, and I love them.

When I first got them, having had a pair of the black Wellco model, I was hesitant. Unlined tongue and hooks vice the lined tongue and straight lacing eyes of the Wellco's. Hmmmm. Well, let's see. I was worried about nothing. I swapped the laces out for the elastic no-tie ones and got afoot. They're wonderful. I've been wearing them through cold and wet, my feet just stay warm and dry. With the lacing hooks and the elastic laces they go on and off like lightning. When it gets colder the Lamilite socks will come out and we'll keep on trucking.

My only regret with these new boots is I didn't get an order in while the chukkas were still available in my size. That's on me though.

Have a great day Jerry,

Vince

When I got this letter from Vince, I did not realize he had purchased a while ago the Wellco brand that was made for me.

I had to ask for a clarification to his sentence “when it gets colder the Lamilite socks come out and we’ll keep on trucking” and he said they come out of the draw and go on his feet since until it gets cold, he does not wear socks when he wears the boots. A man after my own heart, as that is what I have been doing for years.

It is pitiful that so may Wiggy customers of boots made for me and known to the boot manufacturers is not recognized by them to start making Lamilite boots. They have their heads where the sun never shines in my opinion.

MOISTURE

When you live in N.Y.C. otherwise known as Manhattan and work there you may be paying $1000.00 per month on the low side for rent and as high as $4000.00 per month. In this case you can readily afford to purchase a $1000.00 to $1500.00 Canada Goose down parka.

You wear it when you leave your apartment take it off at your office and then put it on when you leave your office to go either home or out for the evening. It works perfectly well for you and all of the moisture that is accumulated in the down has ample time to dry so the loft of the parka stays. But if it gets dirty you automatically send it to the cleaners. But that is its only use.

Now if you get the Wiggy’s Ducksback Antarctic parka you are just as stylish and more comfortable because it is just as light, feels the same as the down parka, but does not retain any of the moisture that it is exposed too. That is one of the beauties of Lamilite. If it happens to get dirty you just wash it at home, another beautiful feature. Now you leave the big apple to go to one of the New England states for camping in the cold weather, to see the changing of the leaves or go to ski and what do you know you are using the same parka. And the final beauty of the Wiggy’s Ducks back parka is the price; currently $275.00 and it is made in America.

Canada Goose may be a Canadian company but they are owned by a conglomerate and as such you do not necessarily know the manufacturing location nor how clean the down is that is blown into their garments. If you have allergies or are chemically sensitive down filled products are products you should definitely stay away from.
