making an obsolete product

THE NEWEST AND GREATEST OBSOLETE INSULATION

I received the sample of this newest obsolete insulation I previously mentioned. It is called VIVO. It came from England where it is made via an international air carrier. It was packaged as if it were an incredibly valuable commodity.

That said what I saw was a chopped staple fiberfill batting made from fine denier fibers which are about one half the thickness of the fiber used to make the Lamilite fiberfill. I also noted that each side of the fiberfill product was smooth. In order to have smooth surfaces the fiberfill had to be put between to hot rollers that melt some of the fibers. This process gives the fiberfill the necessary strength to go through the next process which is to run the fabric through a roller that puts holes in the fiberfill that are about 1/8 inch in diameter ½ inch apart from each other in all directions. At least that is how I think they do it.

The company named “clo” I guess taken from the term “clo value” claims this new insulation will allow up to a “30 percent- increase in breathability”. They really mean vapor permeability, but since breathability is so widespread in its use, they too use it. They further state with “100% warmth retention”.

In describing on the phone to the makers of Climashield the product (samples are en-route at this moment so they have yet to see it) I told them if we had the material without the holes over a steam source you would see steam working its way through the fiberfill. Now if you take this new wholly fiberfill over the same source of steam you will initially see the steam coming through the holes like chimineas. And eventually through the fiberfill anyway. I think 30 percent moisture movement is a low number.

Now for the “100%warmth retention” that is a joke. IF a garment is manufactured using this new obsolete fiberfill that they or any manufacturer claims for use 50 degrees or lower the warmth retention factor will approach 0 percent.

What we have here is an insulating? medium that truly has no insulating capability. I congratulate this company for joining the crowd of companies who belong to the “OBSOLETE INSULATIONS MANUFACTURERS OF THE WORLD CLUB”. They join primaloft, softie, Thermore, outlast, and every other company in the world that offers something as a garment or sleeping bag insulation. The clo companies’ product will not have to go through the testing process because it is technically no different than all that have preceded it.

I know the sales representative who contacted me never reviewed the Wiggy web site and certainly never read what I have said about previous chopped staple fiberfill products and how I praise continuous filament fiber when used to make an insulation. In my educated opinion Lamilite made with Climashield is not only the best insulating material in the world but the only one for use in clothing as well as sleeping bags. I am supported by the thousands who have purchased Wiggy’s products.

This product trade named VIVO is a failure from the get-go and will die away as all chopped staple fibers that preceded them. You can research this product on the internet.
