MANUFACTURING
Sunday morning, I was watching the program “how it’s made” a program I have watched for years. I always marvel at the machines that produce parts and then assemble those parts. For this I am sure I am not alone. The parts are precision made.
I was them reflecting on the production that takes place in the Wiggy factory.
We have different machines that are worked by human hands. We laminate, two people working the machine, quilt one person working the machine, we cut materials on two cutting tables, one for Lamilite and one for flat materials.
All these materials that are laminated or quilted are put on the machines by the workers and removed from the machines as well.
All materials are carried as needed to the cutting tables and put on the spreading machine by the workers. They are then cut by the workers. Once cut they are carried by these same workers to the appropriate sewing operator. Many of the sewn parts are then moved by hand, carried to various stations for future sewing.
The sewing operators all over the factory feed by hand the cut parts joining them as the sleeping bags are made.
Overall Wiggy’s is not automated. All our products are made by people who are skilled in the field of sewing. They can work at any of the different sewing machines that we have.
I am not surprised when people contact me raving about the quality of the sleeping bag they have received. I always share those complements with the workers since it is a complement to their ability to make the bag. I take pride in knowing how skilled they are and how good a product that is shipped from Wiggy’s.
Is there another company that can say what I have said? The answer is no because all companies selling the no sleep sleeping bags get them from a factory in Asia, most likely China where there is no pride of manufacture held by the sewing operators or anyone else in the factory, not even the owner since their name is not on the end product.
As far as I know the no sleep sleeping bags brands are owned by large conglomerates and these corporations are only interested in bottom line profits because they are publicly traded corporations. As such they have obligations to stockholders who are only interested in return on investment.
They have no interest in product performance or pride of manufacture, just margin of profit.
Wiggy’s will continue to manufacture all products other than sleeping bags the same way. You can see the Wiggy operation in the video “tour of the factory” in our u-tube video.
