RESPONSE TO RECENT ARTICLE ABOUT BIKERS CLOTHING.
Dear Wiggy,
Wool is the traditional material for good cycling jerseys and shorts. Woolen shorts with either a doubled crotch or chamois for wear-resistance and “padding”. Best regards,
Angus
Jerry: Like you, I was pretty curious about any fibre that is purported to be bamboo in origin. The advertising that had me curious was hosted soft and durable the finished fabric is. My further research concluded that after chemical alterations this bamboo base simply was used to produce Rayon, a trademarked fabric already. Rayon is a very supple material in woven form. Did this other manufacturer just find a way to remarket Rayon? Thanks for your wonderful products. Like others, I wish I had found your stuff many years ago!
Bill Collister from Sturgis, SD
The process used to make rayon is the same process that the bamboo fiber makers have adopted.
When I was a teen (late 1960s)
I worked in a bicycle shop and raced bicycles, both road and track (at Kissena
Park in NYC, at the cycle track built for the 1960 Olympics) we wore wool
shorts and jerseys imported from France. They wicked sweat just fine. Sometimes
for track racing we wore "slick" silk jerseys but they were hotter.
I enjoy your "BS free" approach, keep it up!
Tom
Seems to me that wool is the best choice for fabric to use to make bike riders clothing. Also, the reason the silk was hotter is simply because it is more tightly woven than the wool and wool is thinker so it is airier so moisture and heat have a tougher time moving through the silk fabric. The silk reacts to heat and moisture similar to polyester or nylon even if those fibers are blended with cotton or bamboo.

Devan wants to push performance with new technology
Textile finishing technology provider Devan Chemicals has offered more details about its Moov&Cool technology, which it says can improve athletic performance by regulating the core body temperature.
Therefore
if you have a heavy set kid who is a couch potato and he now wants to become an
athlete the first thing he should do is get garments made with “moov&cool
technology” fabric which will improve his performance. He need not practice in
the first place so he knows what he is doing, then maybe he will get better. However
the clothing he wears will not help him!
The patent-pending technology was officially launched at the Performance Days
exhibition in Munich in April.
Belgium-based Devan has explained that Moov&Cool consists of a
“multi-functional polymer technology” that absorbs heat during physical
activity and improves the moisture management properties of a fabric. The
treatment can be applied by either padding or spray.
This
company is maybe the 50th to offer the same non-functioning technology just like the 49 that have preceded them
in the market place. This company has NO
PROOF of this claim. Just like the 49 companies who have made the identical
statement. Any company making bikers clothing that believes this should get in
line to by the Brooklyn Bridge.
It was developed after close collaboration with the University of Leuven and
the Bakala Academy, a Leuven-based athletic performance centre. These two
organisations have worked to assess and quantify the effect of this new
finishing technology.
These
two organizations must have been paid a lot of money to further the lie from
the “moov&cool company that is selling the chemical.
According to Devan, the first results are promising with a positive effect on
heart rate and lactate levels, which contributes to exercise-related muscle
fatigue. Testing has also shown a decrease of around 0.4 degrees Celsius in
core temperature.
Promises,
promises, promises, all B/S.
Devan plans to continue testing its Moov&Cool technology on different fibre
types and fabric structures. It aims to offer different application levels in
order to optimise the benefits of the technology for individual sporting
activities, especially those where performance intensity plays a major
role.
THE ONLY BENEFIT TO WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO BE OFFERING IF THEY SELL IT IS MONEY IN THEIR POCKET. THERE IS NO BENEFIT TO THE PERSON WHO CHOSES TO BUY A GARMENT MADE WITH THIS STUFF APPLIED TO IT! NOT ONLY IS THERE NO BENEFIT THERE IS THE LOSE OF THE MONEY PAID FOR THE GARMENT SINCE IT WILL NOT EVER WORK AS THEY CLAIM BUT WILL BE DETRIMENTAL TO THE BUYER BECAUSE THE BUYER WILL HAVE WASTED THEIR MONEY.
