MORE CLARITY ABOUT CHOPPED STAPLE FIBER FROM A BATTING PRODUCER; GOLDECK COMPANY, LOCATED IN AUSTRIA
The quote from their web site is very telling about one of their premium chopped staple fiberfill products that also are applied to some fiberfill products promoted by USA companies that get their products made in Asia. I quote from their web site; “Whether duvet or outdoor apparel: Depending on the nature of the final product, the G-LOFT® bi-component-fibers are combined with a specific mix of micro- and melting fibers (Low-Melt-Fibers). The microfibers as full fibers provide a flatter structure and thus a smaller pack size. The low-melt-fibers are responsible for the lightness and flexibility of the G-LOFT® insulation: Thanks to THERMO-BONDING the outer shell merges with the other fibers, thus ensuring a permanent & soft loft.”
For many years starting with the 3-M Company promoting micro fibers used in the manufacture of their Thinsulate and Light-loft batting to include Primaloft and any other company that says they use microfibers that go flat with limited use, we now know why. Goldeck Company has provided the answer.
I quote; “The microfibers as full fibers provide a flatter structure etc.” So you start out with a fiberfill insulation that has no loft to begin with, and that my friends is why ALL insulated products; such as jackets primarily do not keep you warm. They are insulated (?) with “flat bats”. To retain the warmth that your body is producing requires loft and density which cannot be accomplished with flat fibersfills. I am certainly not surprised by the smaller pack size, lightness and flexibility. I do not comprehend how and I quote; “the outer shell merges with the other fibers”. Is there a glue activated somehow, I doubt it, so I think they are just adding words to describe something that does not occur.
Goldeck also has a manufacturing company that makes clothing and sleeping bags and at one time they tried to sell their products in the USA but were never successful. So the USA consumer does not have to be concerned that they would be hoodwinked if these products were available here. But it is important for the USA consumer to have the knowledge of what is used by USA brands that are made for sale in Asia that happen to use identical fiberfills to the Goldeck fiberfill. In that way you can understand why the flat garments available in retail stores will not keep you warm in even mild winter conditions if you happen to buy one.
When I consider the number of sleeping bag sales that I have to Europe that probably means one less Goldeck bag sold in Europe.
NOW A STORY ABOUT A STLOEN WIGGY’S BAG
i.just returned from a 2 year road trip from Southern California to Alaska to which I spent 6 months, then to the Yukon to which I spent 2 Months and then to Waterton Glacier N/P then down to Yellowstone N/P then to Zion N/P, then to Bryce Canyon N/P. And on this trip I sleep out in the open with a Wiggy's Pad and my Wiggy's Nautilus Over bag and my Hunter with hood over-bag. I never once got cold while sleeping and my bag was always dry when I woke. Several times I woke to snow on me and again I was never cold. Well the reason for the titles "Wiggy's sleeping bags so good they had to be stolen" was because while I was in Bryce Canyon N/P I young couple was looking for a campsite but the campsite was full, so I offered for them to stay at my camp site so that they had a place to camp that night. Well that night a storm cam in and it started to lightly snow, and the young girl of 24 years was just freezing as it got down to 27 degrees F. I heard her crying so I got up and told her to get into my over-bag and within minutes she was warn and slept through the resat of the night in comfort. She had earlier said how good her Mountain Hardware down bag was! She had not planed on it being that cold but her bag was listed to 20 degrees and should have kept her warm., but it didn't, especially since it was snowing. The next morning all she could do was rave about my Wiggy's sleeping bag. A little later that morning I was going a little hike down into the canyons of Bryce. The couple was going to be there all day they had told me so I asked to to keep an eye on my stuff and they said they would. So when I returned they were gone along with my Wiggy's bags ! That ended my trip and off to home I went. I am sure that my bags are keeping them warm ans toasty on their trip.

I do believe Wiggy’s bags may very well be the most stolen sleeping bags made. I have heard several stories of people losing only their sleeping bags in the past.
I’ll bet that every chopped staple fiberfill sleeping bag on the market is never stolen.
