The above information was taken directly off of the Merrill web site.in sentence2 and 3 they specifically state “waterproof gear and discover the power of M-Select wet weather protection etc.” Further down in the information they say “water-resistant” and still further in the presentation they say claim “moisture wicking technology to create comfort and breathability.”
I believe that those who wrote this information do not have any knowledge of the fact that they have written contradictions as well as making claims of what cannot happen when wearing one of these garments. Since the garments are made from nylon or polyester the fabric cannot wick. ONLY natural fiber fabrics such as cotton, wool, silk or rayon can wick moisture.
One more time a company is picking up the erroneous information associated with all of the companies that advertise water-proof breathable materials. Merrill is just trying to misdirect the consumer.
As I see it honesty in advertising with respect to all of these products does not exist. In addition I firmly believe that honesty in the advertising of a multitude of products sold to people who endeavor to go camping leave a great deal to be desired.
Will this situation change; NO because to many people chose not to necessarily think in depth about the claims many companies make. I view these companies as I do politicians, they make a lot of noise but say and do nothing productive. All are totally concerned about the bottom line and if a product doesn’t work as they like to say it does, they go on.
Welcome to the world of marketing.
