Since receiving the cagoule, olive drab, DUCKSBACK I have worn such in continuous rain, driving rain, everything short of hurricane torrent (that maybe soon) and not once has it failed in any manner to keep me 100% dry. The DUCKSBACK material is performing beyond any other rain gear I have. Being super light-weight and packable is the other major plus.

I have received a few testimonials about the zippered jacket and pullover but this is the first for the cagoule, of course I haven’t made but a few.

Gore has their new ad campaign say ” not to think about us”, and for good reason; if you do you will get angry as you realize that their product does not perform as advertised. On the other hand when you wear a Wiggy’s DUCKSBACK garment I want you to think about us as you realize as the initial buyers of DUCKSBACK garments from Wiggy’s have found, it does perform as advertised. Actually I want my customers to always think about their Wiggy products while using them.

I have become almost fixated with the DUCKSBACK material. There are so many items that I would like to make with it. Unfortunately I cannot produce all the different styles I would like too. Any who have purchased the Lamilite insulated Ducksback shell garments know how soft and huggable the garments are. I would easily put my garments up against any and all down garments for feel and certainly performance. As for performance there is a major difference since the Lamilite does not absorb any moisture which the down does. For that reason alone down loses its insulating qualities, while Lamilite never loses its insulating qualities, and down gets heavy and the result is the fact that it does not feel as good as it did when you tried the garment on in the store while it was completely dry. Another important factor is the price of DUCKSBACK Lamilite insulated parkas that are at best one half the price of the down parka designated for cold weather use.

KNEE WARMER

So far we have made 6 or 7 prototypes. It would be easy to make one that is worn while you are in the prone position, but it has to be made secure to wear while moving around. The result is essentially a delay. We are getting close and when we have one that actually is comfortable to wear and stays in place while walking I’ll add it to the web site.

POGGIE

This product also takes some engineering. It has to fit over the various controls on the handle bar without restricting the riders ability to manipulate those controls. I am working with a friend who owns a bike shop so it fits correctly, etc. this product will have the DUCKSBACK fabric as its exterior fabric.

BEING A MANUFACTURER

One of the things I have learned over the many years that I have owned a sewing manufacturing plant is that you have to engineer each and every product you make. You just can’t slap the fabrics together if you want a product that people will be interested in buying. The construction should be such that the product does not fall apart after two weeks use. Rest assured that if it has the Wiggy label (my nickname) on the product is not made haphazardly, it is made to last.

While writing this I received a call from a customer who bought one of my bags through Tim Hampton who taught the backpacking class at Ohio State University. He has the bag for 24 years and is finally sending it back to be refurbished. How is that for durability!
