DO YOU RUN FOR EXERCISE
Jerry,
I've used your products for some time, and last summer asked for your recommendation on winter trail running clothes. I trail run all winter in upstate NY, so need to be prepared for all sorts of bad weather.
Last week, I had the first perfect opportunity to test your fishnet top with Ducksback insulated wind shirt. I took a 40 minute trail run in 17 degree, snowy weather. I've never been more comfortable. I was perfectly warm, but most importantly, was dry the entire time. With other "performance" fabric, I'd stay warm, but would get wet and clammy, and then would be very cold if I had to stop. Thanks for your dedication to making clothing and equipment that really work.
Best,
Blake Keller
Having received and read Blake’s testimonial I wrote back to him suggesting he try my socks as well. He wrote back saying he has them and uses them for hunting, but never thought about running. He said he will try them, maybe as soon as today, he did not say. Living in upstate NY will certainly give him an opportunity to find out if they are better than what he has been wearing.
About 25 years ago I was biking during the winter here in Grand Junction and was wearing my fishnets with a sweat shirt over them and a waterproof rain pullover over the sweat shirt. After about 2 hours and 30 miles of riding when I returned home the sweat shirt was soaked but I was warm because the moisture never touched my skin to cause a chill. When I would cross country ski I also wore the fishnets first and again while others did get a chill when we stopped I did not, for the same reason, nothing wet touched my skin.
The performance fabric garments are all polyester knit garments. They are stretch fabrics and cling to the skin surface and when you put on a second or third layer you do increase the insulation but you also increase the density of what you are wearing so the sweat has no chance of getting away from your skin surface, end result is being clammy and cold when you stop the activity.
What Blake experienced was how well wearing garments that do not cling to your skin surface but allow for air to move with the moisture in it away from your skin surface so you are not clammy ever nor do you get cold when you stop the activity precisely because the sweat never touches your skin again
I find it unbelievable that the companies marketing these “performance” clothing items have not experienced what Blake has experienced. They probably have but have to sell their stuff so the ignore it. I do not know how many mountaineers or wanabe mountaineers have suffered the chill, all do, when they too have stopped to rest and especially when they have finished their activity for the day and are now in their tents. They do not dry out and once in their sleeping bags which are mostly down much of the moisture gets into the down which then frosts which also never leaves their bags. This scenario is all too common with climbers. They are gluttons for punishment in my opinion.
As for the companies that sell these garments, the employs may only use them during the summer months or in the gym.
Another group that has used these types of garments for years is skiers. I used to sit on lifts with them who were freezing on the ride back to the top of the mountain. Why, trapped sweat against their body and the wind created by the lift even if it were still air.
Blake I am very grateful for your testimonial because coming from you a customer of Wiggy’s products should generate more belief on the part of the skeptical as is the case with many who have written to me about other products I make. So thanks again.
