THE SCANDLE CONTINUES

What follows is but one of several articles I found on the internet.

“Military has addressed sleeping bag issue, spokesperson tells National Post

In a statement to the National Post, the Department of National Defence said it has already taken action.

If they, had they would have called me. LOL

I do not know what action they have taken since nothing is showing up in any of the articles. What I do know is that many want to know the manufacturer and country of origin. I would personally want to know when the order was placed. It takes quite a while to manufacture $34,824,728.23 worth of sleeping bags.

“After initial issue, a questionnaire was disseminated to end users to assess interoperability, ruggedness, comfort, adjustability, reliability, and operational, effectiveness,” National Defence spokesperson Kened Sadiku said over email on Friday.

Once the end users said they were cold nothing else mattered, however, I suspect the workmanship was shoddy too.

“Feedback from 3PPCLI indicated that the system lacked adequate thermal protection when used with only a bivy in austere, mid-winter conditions.”

The issuers lacked the knowledge that bivy bags do not add warmth but can cause chilling if they trap perspiration, which they do.

According to the department, those soldiers were given additional supplies like thermal blankets for “units operating in extreme environments.” An investigation officer was sent to interview 3 PPCLI soldiers.

“Thermal blanks” which I suspect are probably wool. They are wonderful for retaining moisture, perspiration, which enhances the cold. How about interviewing 30.

“Unsatisfactory Condition Reports were logged, and this data will be used to inform future initiatives,” said Sadiku.

Imagine over 300 unsatisfactory reports all for the same reason “I was cold”. The future initiative is to call Wiggy’s. LOL

Prior to the issues with the GPSBS, the army was working on a sleeping bag for extreme cold weather — the Extreme Cold Weather Sleeping Bag system (ECWSBS) — “ensuring coverage across all climatic conditions, including the Arctic.” The GPSBS is intended for “sub-arctic conditions” whereas the ECWSBS, which is in progress, “is designed for Arctic conditions,” Sadiku said.

This is a fabrication. Without knowledge of insulation and which is the best proven in cold weather conditions, such as arctic all they would be doing is asking each other “what do we do?” the answer of course is Lamilite and Wiggy’s. Now the question is will they contact me? It will be in the best interest of the soldiers, but is that a concern of theirs? Until now it has not been a concern as far as I am concerned

Article content

The GPSBS remains a core component of the Canadian Armed Forces’ sleeping system and is expected to stay in service for many years, he said.

So, the “NO SLEEP SLEEPING BAG SYSTEM” is expected to stay in service for many years. What kind of service will they give, keeping the soldiers cold as they already have shown? ASTONDING STATEMENT.

The value of the contract for the GPSBS is $34,824,728.23, he added.

What he forgot to mention “we have been ripped off”.

“The ECWSBS cost is not included in the GPSBS cost, but it is budgeted in DND’s procurement plan,” said Sadiku.”

The money is gone and what was supposed to be delivered wasn’t!!!

Will the source of the sleeping bags surface, will those responsible come forward?

All of this is important because the lives of soldiers are at stake. It is now important to really find a product that does perform in the conditions they want a sleeping bag for and one that has a reputation that goes back to 1992. A bag that not only works at the arctic temperatures but is so durable it will last through several soldiers.

Will they bite the bullet and call?
