A NEW VIDEO`
By the time this article is published I will have completed my newest u tube video the subject of being Polartec’s newest entry into the polyester fiberfill insulation business. It will air on Friday.
They are calling their product “power fill”. I think the brand name is a misrepresentation of exactly what it is. Power fill it is not, but then again I do not know what they are otherwise referencing.
What they have done is taken polyester fiber as it comes out of the fiber making process and made a unidirectional very low loft batting and applied a low melt chopper staple binder fiber to the continuous filament fiber. This is then run through an oven where the low melt fiber melts and when dried in the over binds the continuous filament fiber together.
Historically when I was with the mill that made the original continuous filament fiber then trade named Polar Guard we also made a unidirectional batting. It was about the same thickness as this product but was expensive as this product is. We decided that it really had no use so back then about 1969 we ended all experimentation.
Years later the Primaloft Company tried having a similar product made I believe in Taiwan which they offered to the outdoor market place and it lasted maybe two years before they decided to end the product.
So, Polartec not having any knowledge have decided to offer into the market place a product that has demonstrated it has no purpose. When I consider the Polartec powers to be, have in reality no knowledge of insulation why should I be surprised that they will try anything to market their products?
Enjoy the video.
