AN UNUSUAL TESTIMONIAL, BUT WELCOME
“I get mad when I read reviews on your bags claiming they aren't as good as "so and so's bag, or aren't up to the tasks!”
We’ve had an extreme cold snap here in Alberta Canada (-30
to -46 C for almost a month now at the coldest part of the day/night)
I made a point of sleeping outside several times (no tent, just my Antarctica, and
outer bag and bivy sack) Slept out from 10:00 till 6:00 am with the coldest it
reached being -46 C (that is with wind chill, -37 C otherwise)
I get so mad when I read reviews on your bags saying that they don’t keep you
warm. Not only did I survive these temps, but I wasn’t even cold (other than
the head area which I didn’t cinch because I don’t want to feel claustrophobic.
I would gladly challenge ANYONE with ANY bag to spend the night outside in
these temps. I look forward to – 40 and colder for the thrill of being
able to sleep out in it comfortably! LOL (I just wish it would go colder… HAHA)
If you run into anyone in my neck of the woods who claim your cold weather bags
aren’t up to the winters here, send them my way, and I’ll gladly pull out my sleep
system and prove its abilities, any time, any weather!

My bags are used in Antarctica by the National Science Foundation and have been for years. My bags are used at the military’s cold region training facility on the ice in the arctic. My Antarctic bags are used in greater numbers each year than all of the other bags made in the world combined for the last 25 years that have been rated to but don’t work at -20 degrees F. Let me say I am not concerned about anyone who makes claims that there is a sleeping bag made anywhere in the world that is comparable because I know there isn’t.
There is a very good reason why Wiggy’s Ultima Thule (-20) and Antarctic (-60) degree bags are at the fore front of the extreme cold weather market. When I first started making sleeping bags that was all I made. When people were venturing out during the winter months they could not get winter sleeping bags from any of the brands that existed 30 years ago. All of the well-known brands were busy making outerwear which was their bread and butter product. They didn’t then and I still believe they don’t make any money selling their no sleep sleeping bags. These companies did me a favor by leaving the cold weather market solely to Wiggy’s. I obviously took advantage of this opportunity and have made the best of it to become the producer of the best cold weather sleeping bags in the world.
However, they did not know that they opened the door for Wiggy’s to get known for these great cold weather bags and then I was getting orders for the other temperature rated bags because people were believing that I had and still do have the most accurately rated sleeping bags ever made. Actually I under rate my sleeping bags so anyone buying a 20 degree bag who finds he/she is in 5 degree weather does not freeze, they stay warm. To the contrary people who buy any of the other brands of no sleep sleeping bags find out in short order that the 20 degree bag they thought they bought doesn’t keep them warm at 35 degrees; and that is when they know they are the owner of a no sleep sleeping bag.
There is one aspect of the other companies that offer their no sleep sleeping bags and that is there desire to abuse their customers and potentially put their lives at risk. When you sell someone a product that simply does not work as described in your literature you are abusing them. If you sell someone a sleeping bag and you do not know its limitations and tell them when asked if it will perform at 0 degrees and you say yes that is potentially putting their live in danger. I maintain that every company out their selling their no sleep sleeping bags does not know the limitations of their product.
I recently posted that cascade designs has put a sleeping bag on the market that has no chance of working at -20 degrees, with a weight of 3.4 pounds, down filled. Why do I know this because historically when I first entered into the sleeping bag part of the camping market all of the companies selling down bags made 0 degree bags with 4 to 4.5 pounds of down! Down has not changed the way synthetics have so it is disingenuous to use less down and come up with a lower temperature capability. Of course the 4 to 4.5 pound down bags didn’t work either at the 0 degree temperature.
I am beginning to think the best way to function in the outdoor world of business is to become disingenuous. For 40 years companies have been lying to the general public and nobody, any members of the general public have done anything about it. So many just suck it up as this is the way things are and what can you do about it? The answer to that question exists all you have to do is recognize reality!!!
