THE BOAT FOOT
Hi, just wanted to reach out and thank you for such well-made and thought out products. I have had your super light bag for more years than I can remember, and it is still a pleasure to use. First bag I have ever had that I cannot remember a single night I woke up cold. Only bag I have ever had that kept my feet warm. Always look forward to using it. Cannot thank you enough. Want to get an updated bag with different foot box soon, hard to imagine you could have improved on something already so nice though!
Bbrian
I wrote to bbrian to read up on the boat foot bag.
Sir, I purchased one of your 0*
rectangle Super Light bags back in May, to replace a much-used Super Light that
I purchased second hand, years ago. I did a review of the SL on your site.
I thought you might be interested in the following experience with your bag.
The weather here in the Northeast has been unusually warm this fall, but a cold
front came through a couple days ago, bringing a few inches of snow and much
colder temps.
The low last night was predicted to be in the mid-teens, so I thought I'd take
advantage of it and sleep outside to try to acclimate myself somewhat to the
colder temps in preparation for a week long hunting trip.
There were a couple inches of crusty, frozen snow on the ground when I went out
last night and the temp was 23* F. I put a folded 8 x10 poly tarp down on the
snow, laid two (inadequate for the conditions) open cell foam pads on top, then
my sleeping bag. I went back inside to let my bag cool to the ambient temp and
to change into a thin polypropylene base layer, under a light fleece bottom and
top, along with a knit hat.
After dressing, I went out and got in my SL and left it unzipped and open, with
just my feet inside. I laid there for a few minutes, looking at the stars, with
the intention of shedding the fleece and zipping the bag for the night.
The next thing I knew, I woke up with the bag up around my shoulders, but still
unzipped, with one arm completely outside of the bag and my uncovered hand
laying on the tarp, and I was comfortably warm, including my exposed hand. When
I looked at the thermometer, I had brought out with me, it was 16* F, I was
toasty warm and had slept 6 hours.
I zipped the bag up to my chest, slid down further inside and covered my head,
leaving a small opening around my face and slept until morning.
I slept out in the open, using inadequate ground insulation, in an unzipped bag
most of the night, in temperatures way lower than what I was acclimated to and
slept COMFORTABLY WARM all night long.
You make a hell of a bag and at a very reasonable price.
Thank you!
Bob Smith
Jerry & Kok,
I am sorry, I was unclear about the model of my bag. I actually have the Super Light with hood but being so warm and comfortable when I woke up, I just pulled the upper bag around my head instead of using the hood. Amazing, all things considered. I do not know why anybody would use anything but a Wiggy's bag.
Thank you both, again. And for getting back to me, on a Saturday night, no less.
Bob
I initially wrote to Bob thinking he had a hunter no hood model bag, but as you can see, he corrected the model to a hooded super light mummy bag.
But it makes no difference, the bag worked very well. So, I am very pleased with his report so to speak of his experience.
Then I received this e mail which I was in treated by Jon’s second paragraph.
Mr. Wigutow,
Thank you for the quick response to my email. I have ordered the Antarctic Rectangular bag and have attached a copy to this email. I am very excited to get this bag for my son's Scout trip to Wisconsin, leaving in the morning on November 12th - he will be loving life in this bag! Please do let me know if there is any delay which may cause a need to change the shipping method, as I will pay extra to get it here on time.
By the way, I enjoyed watching your videos on insulation, the history of the industry, etc. I did quite a bit of research, read a ton of stuff online, and was a bit overwhelmed with all of the information and differing opinions on this topic. Your videos and the scores of testimonials and reviews I read or watched ultimately helped me to take a decision, cutting through the crap, ignorance, and bias. Also, it is great to buy an American Made Product!
Thanks again,
Jon
I told Jon that those with opinions do not have any knowledge of insulations, they do not have any information of which fabrics that should be used for sleeping bags, they do not have any knowledge of how best to use these materials when constructing a sleeping bag. further they have no knowledge of how to actually test a sleeping bag to be able to correctly temperature rate the bag.
It has been said that each of us can have or do have opinion and it is also true that each of us has an “A” HOLE. So, those who chose to listen to those who have never made a sleeping bag in their life will learn as two who called me last week, one buying a north face bag and the other a nemo bag, both from rei and returned them. The reason, they were both cold at about 40 degrees in bags rated for 0 degrees. Both ordered Super Lights.
Those with their opinions are giving them an opinion about “no sleep sleeping bags”.
