REPUBLISHED
I found out why it was cut short. But this story deserved to be published by itself.
Hi,
Well, its been many years since I had my most memorable Wiggy’s experience.
I was a USAF Captain flying as an Aircraft Commander in the HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter with the 56th Rescue Squadron at Keflavik NAS in Iceland. (I was there 96-98).
Our Pararescue team there had good things to say about Wiggy’s gear and I believe they used the Victims Casualty Hypothermia Bag as part of their kit. They handed me an Wiggy’s catalog (Printed!) and one afternoon I made a call to number in the catalog and sure enough it was Wiggy himself who answered and talked to me. We settled on a FTRSS bag and at the time you were kind enough to offer a military discount.
Not long after I received the bag I had the opportunity to travel to Vestmannaeyjar, an island off the south coast of Iceland for the famous Þjóðhátíð festival (Festival of fire). While this was in early August, the weather in Iceland is very unpredictable. I didn’t have a tent at the time so I checked one out of the recreation department on base. Upon arriving to the Herjólfsdalur valley I set up then began the partying. Late that night I found my way back to my tent and sleepily crawled into my Wiggy’s bag. Sometime during the night the wind picked up and it began to rain (mostly horizontally!). Unbeknownst to me sometime during the night the rickety old tent from the rec dept collapsed. I awoke to a face full of nylon and a tent filled with 2-3 inches of water on the floor. The FTRSS was soaked but I was so warm and cozy that the weather and water never woke me up.
I’ve never had to use the bag in extreme conditions since then but I know that it will be there for me if I need it!
Thanks for making a great product
Scott
