RIDDING THE WORLD OF WATERPROOF-BEATHABLE FABRICS WHICH WE KNOW DO NOT EXIST
I figured out how that can be accomplished. All we need is one major outerwear manufacturer to stand up and acknowledge there is no such fabric that is both waterproof and breathable [vapor permeable]. Therefore, we will no longer refer to any of our rain garments ‘waterproof and breathable” but just waterproof. We will continue to sell off what was originally designated as waterproof breathable only as waterproof. When all of our inventory is gone all rainwear will be waterproof.
If one company of significant size does this every other company will follow unless they can prove their waterproof breathable does that. A tall order to prove the unproveable.
This week I read a company in the UK has just developed their own waterproof breathable material. Will this foolishness ever stop? No, so long as gortex exists.
I propose the following people stand up to do the right thing.
Tim Boyle CEO Columbia Sportswear
Kevin Plank CEO Under Armour
Eric Artz President REI
Steven Smith President LLBean
Jonny Morris CEO Bass Pro
Ryan Gellert CEO Patagonia
I believe the presidents and CEO’s of any company manufacturing and selling products to the general public are obligated to offer credible information about the products they sell. For the past 60 years that gore has been selling goretex each of these companies has participated in promoting waterproof breathable rain garments.
Patagonia was late coming to the table because Yvon Chouinard the original owner of the company said it was bogus. What changed his mind years ago was probably money.
The reality is all of these companies and many more spout how they are concerned about the buying public and earth. Talk is cheap.
So, which one of you is up to it to acknowledge goretex finally publicly and all the copycats have a bogus product.
I know Tim Boyle from the days they were struggling, Gert was a marvelous businesswoman and Tim inherited a marvelous company. Now its time for him to put his mark on it. The result being then of goretex and the copycats.
By the way people employed in the outdoor industry have know for years that goretex doesn’t work but there was money to be made so they accepted it.
