SALES OF PRODUCT IN COLORADO

As a manufacturer located in the state of Colorado and being a mail order business I am required to charge all sales via mail order by Colorado residents 2.9 percent. If you come into the Wiggy factory store you pay 8.2 percent.

As of December 1, 2018 Wiggy’s as well as any other Colorado based mail order company receiving an order from a Colorado resident we will be charging you the taxes that exist in your town, city, or county. In addition there will be a sur charge added on to cover the costs that the Wiggy Company will experience.

I was told that the current sales tax rate for “Summit County” is 16 percent, that is what people in Vail pay and Wiggy’s would be obligated to charge that amount as well.

So for all Colorado residents I suggest you place your orders from Wiggy’s prior to December 1, 2018. Check around so you know I am not writing this to cause people on the fence about Wiggy products to buy them.

I also wonder if the state of Colorado department of revenue hasn’t sent the same letter to other mail order companies all over the country advising them they have to collect the sales taxes as well.

This is a growing trend and all mail order companies may have to do the same for every state in the union at some time in the future, not distant I might add.

Governments are populated by legislators who have nothing to do other than to think up devious ways to extort money from the ultimate consumer. Their method is to use honest businesses that are only motivated to sell their products to consumers. My office manager is looking at all possible methods of doing the records so when we have to give these tax dollars we have collected the state gets what they want, not that they are entitled to it. Of course we have to be perfect so we are not fined if we make a mistake of one cent. But the reality is the consumer pays the costs ultimately.
