BUT FIRST SOME TRUTH

Jerry:

Just this past Fall I discovered a new use for your fishnet long john’s, or at least it was a way to use your fishnets for something other than to stay dry and warm in extreme environments. I live in the North East and every fall as the leaves begin to change color, I know what’s coming. The time all homeowners dread, raking leaves weekend upon weekend, until the trees are bare or it’s just to dam cold and windy to care.

Raking leaves is a process that causes the average person to sweat profusely and after about an hour or so of raking leaves I’m soaking wet and thus cold and end up stopping to change most of my clothes and warm-up before venturing out to finish the days task. So this year I decided to see if wearing your fishnets as a base layer, just as I do when I’m in extreme weather conditions would keep me dry while raking leaves. Jerry I must admit, even I was surprised in how well wearing the fishnet top under a loose fitting cotton t-shirt, with a heavy knit button-up long sleeve work shirt as my outer layer worked in keeping me dry and warm all day. I never had to stop to change into dry clothes and I never was cold as in the past as I generally stayed dry while raking. At the end of the day the only place where my clothes got wet was around the collar of my shirt and the waist band of my pants; which was to be expected for the way I worked and sweated all day.

I was sold on your fishnets long ago but never thought to use them to keep me dry while I was this active. Probably because the temperature was in the 40’s and I just always associated wearing fishnets as a base layer to keep warm in much colder weather. Well I’m writing now to let you know how well your fishnets preformed in keeping my dry and thus warm while raking leaves weekend after weekend this past fall. So whether you’re hunting and/or camping in extreme weather or raking leaves on the weekend, your body is sweating. Even though the temperature was generally in the 40’s when your body is perspiring at such a fast and steady rate, your clothes are going to get soaked and then there’s nothing you can do to stay warm. To avoid this, simply wear the fishnet long john’s, you’ll stay dry, warm and get your work done in record time without having to stop to get warm or change into dry clothes.

Thanks for making an excellent product and always making it right here in the USA,

Mario

Mario thank you very much for sharing your experience! Your experience is the first that I recall when the temperature was in the 40’s even though I have written the fishnets should be worn when the temperature is 40 degrees and lower as well. Thanks for the confirmation.

Jerry:

I read all your rants and love them. If it wasn't for you and your commentary, I would still be cold all winter. You’re the only honest outdoor apparel manufacture I know of and I spread the good news to anyone who asks me why I'm not cold when it's obvious that their overpriced name brand outdoor apparel has failed them.

THE TRASH BAG

OMM Mountain Raid 1.6 Sleeping Bag

Primaloft Gold minimalist sleeping bag

The bag is made from a combination of materials to ensure maximum performance. The Purist bag for the Minimalist, The shell is made from PointZero, It has a DWR treatment to the fabrics face to give it a degree of water repellency and also extra stain resistance. The synthetic insulation is Primaloft Gold to give the best warmth to weight ratio available on the market, we have used different weights per panel to ensure the best technical usage of the fill. The base sheet is filled with Primaloft Gold 60g, we then put the Primaloft Gold 100g on the top sheet. The footbox is also shaped and filled with Primaloft Gold 100g to keep the feet warm. The construction is also considered as we have a loose laid outer shell and the inner stitched through to the insulation again this is to maximise insulative value and eliminate cold spots.

THIS omm company I have never heard of until today when I read the article about them using the primaloft fiberfill as an insulation (that is very questionable). I went to their web site and see they are involved in racing and have been at it for 50 years, but I do not believe they have been involved in sleeping bags prior to this trash bag that is offered now. Before I go further I must tell you what it is selling for on their web site; 180 pounds sterling or $251.20 US.

When I say some companies are con artists, scammers or swindlers I believe these people should get the blue ribbon. I am glad they are located in the UK and as far as I can tell they do not have any distribution in the USA.

The exterior of the bag is a plain shell that looks like mine, but the lining is and I quote; “stitched trough to the insulation (they mean that the lining is stitched through the insulation again this is to maximise insulative value and eliminate cold spots”. How do you eliminate what you have just built into the bag; the cold spots with the stitching through the fiberfill? You don’t!!! The reason for the quilting is to stabilize the fiberfill so it does not break apart immediately when it is stuffed and unstuffed and when slept in if that is possible when the temperature is between 41 and 50 degrees. Of course if you happen to wash the bag fiberfill degradation is absolutely guaranteed.

Is there no end to what material suppliers will say or spend to get a manufacturer to use their product regardless how much information exists as to how in efficient it is for the purpose of insulation in a sleeping bag? This manufacturer I believe has less knowledge of what it takes to make a sleeping bag that will actually perform for the temperature than will fit in a gnats butt!!!

Just the other day I received a call from a Canadian survival and search and rescue instructor located in Red Deer area of Canada. He had a group of UK soldiers to train and they were ALL freezing because they were using UK military issue, you can guess the maker. Shortly he will be ordering Wiggy’s gear for them. The stodgy British once bought 32 of my Ultima Thule bags for a test and evaluation. They put in their solicitation one requirement; the bag had to be able to go through 30 launderings. That disqualified ALL other brands. They never bought anymore because they were not made in the UK. They in the testing and purchasing section of the UK military obviously have no regard for the grunts. Pity!!! It also appears that the private sector has no regard for the consumer; seems to be worldwide with many products, except sleeping bags in the USA, Wiggy’s are selling very well.

Watch out for the scammer, con artists, swindlers, charlatans and silver tongue devils because they are out there.
