THE PERFECT PRODUCT
In my lifetime numerous products have been made and spoken of but they have all failed the test of time. Because all these products have failed, I cannot think of one that fits the description of the perfect product.
There is one product people have tried to make for almost 200 years not knowing what part of the product was most important to its success. They knew they had to have a form of insulation. They tried straw, cotton, wool, and finally down. They had basically down feather comforter like products. Eventually those working on developing such a product became more sophisticated and started channeling the down. Better product but water was their nemesis, and it still is. Then polyester fiberfill came on the scene. Those who wanted to make this product used the polyester fiberfill in a manner that made the product look like the down product. Then a new form of polyester fiber fill came into the marketplace. And it was treated just like the polyester fiberfill that was already being used.
Then someone looked at this new form of polyester fiberfill and said what if we change the way we process it before we cut and sew it. The result was a look that was different of this product from the down look. It did not matter that the new look gave a technically better product. Those in charge of product development of this product development at all the companies making this product were stymied and would not entertain pursuing a change because of cosmetics. They were brain dead.
However, someone from outside of the industry who knew about fiberfills said OKAY, I’ll make this product myself. Since he was knowledgeable of certain processes that would make it easy to use this knew fiberfill product and built a machine to do the processing. He then started manufacturing the product. The next step was to sell the products. All the existing companies sold their products through retail outlets. He tried the retailers but they would not buy them because they did not understand why he was superior. So, he marketed his products through mail order. Selling a superior product is challenging because as in this case he was going against the norm. but people began to buy his product, and they began to write to him how well his product worked versus what they had and were no longer using. Through these letters he got information about his product he did not know. He was surprised about his products’ performance capabilities and kept those letters and published them for his audience to see. That cause many more to write. He realized he had field testers generously giving him their experiences.
Over a period of 38 years via his customers sharing their experiences he acquired a wealth of knowledge he otherwise have not gotten.
He believes that it may be a perfect product, here is a description of the product and how it is used.
It does nothing, when it is put into use it just lays on the ground. It does not jump up and down like a dog when coasted nor will it roll over. When a cat enters the area, it immediately lays down on it.
So, what does it do and how does it work. To cause it to work you must get inside of it. Once inside of it, it starts to work even though you initially are not aware and in doing so it still stays on the ground only now with you in it. The first action that it takes is to contain the heat that your body is giving off. You do not realize it but the moisture also coming out of your body moves away from you and goes through the material it if made of.
If it gets wet for any reason it does not affect its ability to do its job.
I could go on and on with its qualities, but you already know them.
The point is the Wiggy bag is as perfect a product as is made. It certainly is a product as perfect as a sleeping bag can be made.
All my success is certainly attributed to all those people who shared with me their experiences which educated me about my products. Since I started manufacturing my sleeping bags I have never thought of “tweaking” them as is done by others in the industry. What you buy today is no different than what someone bough 38 years ago. I never thought about changing any aspect of Wiggy’s bags. When you have achieved perfection you leave it as is.
