THERE IS ONLY THEORY
Out of curiosity I tried to research how much pressure the human body generates when it is sweating and I could not find any figure or information pertaining to the question.
I also researched if there is any definitive proof of tests showing that waterproof breathable materials actually do work and again I could not find any. However, I did find the theory that the outside water such as rain did not penetrate through fabric that was waterproof but moist vapor was not diffusing through material, so the theory of “breathability” remains theory as far as the testers are concerned.
Without pressure forcing the vapor to the fabric so the vapor can diffuse through the fabric the vapor just languishes in the inside of the garment.
Why would these laboratories unconnected to Gore have results when testing Gore’s material as well as virtually every other material made for the same purpose be any different than what Gore’s $15,000,000.00 laboratory demonstrates. But lest we never forget that the Gore laboratory stated proof that toes get colder faster than the rest of the foot. I have never heard or read anything of that nature being reported by any other laboratory, in the US or elsewhere in the world. I have to give them credit where credit is due.
I also learned that the water coming out of the human body referred to as sweat does not have an odor. If your skin and body hair are dirty that is the source of foul odor. Amazing the amount of information that is readily available on the internet. If the youth of America took advantage of the wealth of information available on the internet we might not ask “why Johnny can’t read”.
Anyway I digress and believe all of the chemicals that are being added to fabrics to ward off body odor by killing the microbes are probably contributing to the odor problems people are experiencing. Sweating is very important for the health of the body and the moisture given off is necessary to keep the skin healthy. Maybe the guys who make these garments should go to the internet and learn something.
Many years ago I would get a call from a person now and then telling me they were chemically sensitive and did I use chemicals in the fabrics my bags were made from. I did not know how these individuals would respond to the fabrics so I would send them a sample of the fabric and fiberfill which I did know was non-allergenic. I told them to sleep with it and if there was a reaction they would know it and if not they would know that as well.
Today I receive orders from many people who are chemically sensitive because I am spoken of on the web site for chemically sensitive people very positively. The number of chemically sensitive people is growing unfortunately I believe because so many are being subjected to chemically in their clothing.
You may not be chemically sensitive now but subjecting yourself to the variety of chemicals impregnated into fabric used for clothing that touches your skin and especially when you sweat will cause the chemicals to leech out onto your skin and eventually you become chemically sensitive.
A word of advice to one and all who have purchase a rain garment that uses the falsely advertise w/b materials you have one year to return them to rei or bean as I was told this morning, if you find they do not perform as advertised. I suspect that one and all retailers will honor the one year or less return policy.
Remember theory is only theory!!!!!
