IT IS TIME TO BOYCOTT NIKE

"Nike Cancels ‘Betsy Ross Flag’ Sneaker After Colin Kaepernick Expresses Concerns

Posted by SGB Media | Jul 2, 2019 | Footwear, SGB Updates , Update

Nike canceled Monday’s launch of its new limited edition USA-themed Air Max 1 Quick Strike sneaker for the Fourth of July holiday after criticism that it featured an early American flag that some found offensive.

https://sgbonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Screen-Shot-2019-07-02-at-8.08.26-AM-300x235.pngA patriotic homage to Betsy Ross’ original American flag design can be found embroidered on the heel along with a Nike Air woven tongue patch surrounded by 13 stars to represent the original states. The model was expected to serve as the follow-up to the 2003 Air Max 1 “USA.”

Critics reportedly included former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who fronted the company’s 30th Anniversary ad campaign last year. According to the Wall Street Journal, Kaepernick told Nike that he and others found the flag to be an offensive symbol due to its connection to the slavery era. Images of the model had been posted on social media.

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback courted controversy by kneeling during the playing of the national anthem before some NFL games in 2016, inspiring a series of nation-wide protests against police brutality and social injustice. Earlier this year, he reached an out-of-court settlement with the NFL after suing its ownership group for collusion after he failed to find a spot on any team roster despite leading his team to the Super Bowl in 2013.

Other individuals also called out Nike on social media for featuring a flag that flew in the U.S. during slavery to celebrate Independence Day. One commenter on Instagram said, “I wasn’t free yet.”

A Nike spokesperson confirmed it ultimately pulled the sneakers because of the flag.

“Nike has chosen not to release the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July as it featured an old version of the American flag,” a Nike statement said."

THIS MORNING I READ THE ABOVE ARTICLE AND WAS DISGUSTED

The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is the greatest country to live in in the world. Yes we have our faults but we have FREEDOM.

I am 2nd generation born in the USA citizen. My grandparents came to the USA from Russia. I never went to college but into the business world at the age of 19 knowing nothing about textiles but took the time to learn so I could earn money to support myself. And what I learned I have used to do something no other person on the planet had or has done nor will it be improved upon anytime soon or into the distant future. That is to make a sleeping bag that got me a patent and since the inception of my sleeping bag I have learned that since the inception of sleeping bags there is nothing even close to being comparable. In the future there still will not be any even close to being comparable.

Could I have accomplished this in any other country in the world; absolutely not! In the USA I had available to me materials that were not produced in any other country in the world and one in particular is still only produced in the USA; continuous filament fiberfill for insulation. I learned about this component that I use in my sleeping bags and how best to use it for its maximum capability. Today because of this material LAMILITE/CLIMASHIELD my company is the largest producer of sleeping bags in the world. Could I have accomplished this had I been born in any other country on the planet; absolutely not! Are there other men like me having learned about something and produced product from what they learned; absolutely. Just look around at all of the wonderful products available to us in the USA that is not available to citizens of most other countries on the planet.

The guy who started nike should if he is religious thank his God of choice for allowing him to be born in the USA. Could he have been able to make the original shoes had it not been for materials he could find in the USA to make his original shoe; YES! The point is that the financial success of the nike company could not have happened in any other country on the planet.

He pays many men and women to promote his products many millions of dollars each because these athletes who in numerous cases come from ghetto backgrounds are outstanding because they have honed their skill in a variety of sports. They are entertainers just like any actor etc. People pay big dollars to go to the stadiums to see them do whatever sport they participate in. They too thank their God of choice for giving them the opportunity to earn the moneys they receive because they are the best entertainers in the sport of choice and are citizens of the USA; could they have accomplished the same thing in any other countries on the planet; NO!

This company nike also has made men in countries like China wealthy by employing them to make product for them. But nike has not done much if anything to increase the wealth of a work force in the USA. Do they make or have made for them in any USA factory products; NO as far as I know.

Daily people from the world over are trying to get into the USA, why because the USA offers opportunity for anyone wanting to put forth the effort to succeed.

The owner of nike should be ashamed of himself for not doing the right thing which is to honor our heritage. My opinion is to boycott nike. I find the action of nike to be very offensive, they should revere the flag of the USA and what it represents.

Maybe companies like dick’s or bass pro and the host of other retail stores located in the USA will have the back bone to confront nike and say we are USA companies and we don’t like you referencing the flag in an offensive manner. Do they have the back bone, my guess is no!!!

So nike will not be celebrating the 4 th of July this year as it would not be politically correct.

I for one will enjoy the 4 day weekend and think as I actually do often my good fortune of having been born in the USA and been able to educate myself to be able to make a product that will be around serving humanity long after I am gone and that is a small number of people who have lived accomplishing something of an equal capability versus the many millions that have and still do live. We are a small club you can say.

THE STATE OF COLORADO

I also read that the state of Colorado has given a grant of tax payer dollars to big agnes a Colorado based company so they can expand their marketing of the products they buy from Chinese or other Asian based companies to sell in Europe.

This company as far as I know does not have any factories or otherwise production in the USA.If they did and by expanding sales regardless where and would result in more jobs in the USA I could understand to a minor degree the state helping. However, if they want to expand their sales off shore why don’t the just self- finance the project or go to a bank and get a loan? The answer is simple they prefer to get free money from the state because the state has already taken it from us tax payers.

Of course whatever they sell in Europe would be competing with the same trash products European companies already buy from the same factories located in Asia. The losers ultimately are the European customers who buy this stuff thinking they are getting a USA made product.

These people who always beg for money will spend it wantonly and when they fail off shore they may very well go back the granter for more tax payer dollars.
