“VIRTUE” IS THE ACTION BY WHICH ONE GAINS AND KEEPS A VALUE
AYN RAND -Rationality as the Primary Virtue
LAMILITE/CLIMASHIELD is a virtuous product.
When you purchase a Wiggy product you have purchased a virtuous product.
I have written endlessly about the Lamilite/Climashield product being the most efficient insulating material on the planet. I have written about its resilience based on the fact that I have been vacuum packing sleeping bags for the Air Force for almost 30 years using the same equipment that was originally built to do this work in 1960. The way the system works is to extract the air in special blister poly bags while compressing the bags in a mold with about 20 tons of pressure. As read in the article about the survival kits the Air Force now has in its aircraft the loft returns once taken out of the blister packaging.
The Lamilite/Climashield is also a launderable material as evidenced by the fact that I always recommend the bags be laundered. There is no limit to the number of times they can be laundered and that goes for ALL Wiggy’s Lamilite/Climashield products.
I have also demonstrated that the Lamilite /Climashield product is not a combustible material. Yes it will burn so long as there is a flame source but not on its own and if subjected to flame once the source is removed it self-extinguishes.
Now to examine Lamilite/Climashield as an insulating medium. You put on an insulated jacket or get into a sleeping bag. The heat that is in each of these items comes directly from you, the heat that your body is generating. The purpose of the insulating medium is to keep the heat you have generated in the jacket or sleeping bag. I have been making sleeping bags since the late 1970’s when I owned Olam Outdoor Sports Products in N.C. I had some knowledge of how well the Polar Guard the original continuous filament fiberfill performed in jackets and light weight sleeping bags because I made them for use on my boat. When I was now making them for camping purposes, I chose heavier weight based upon thicknesses I read in Gerry Cunningham’s booklet how to keep warm. When I opened Wiggy’s I chose to increase the weights for the various bags knowing full well they would work at the temperature rating I applied to them. However, when came to temperature ratings I was mildly wrong. You see over the past 34 years of Wiggy’s making and selling sleeping bags I learned that my bags are under rated. All of the different temperature rated bags have shown they do perform in temperatures lower than what I have rated them for. Knowing this I still will not change the ratings of the bags or reduce the weights of the Lamilite/Climashield I put in them. I never argue with success or mess it up. My proof of how well the Lamilite/Climashield performs comes from the U.S. Air Force who recently tested the survival kits that are carried on all of our bombers; B-52, B-1, B-2 as well as numerous fighters. They learned that the products made with the L-6 Lamilite/Climashield performed at a staggering -65 F when they were only looking for a product that would perform as low as -40 F.
Knowing that things change dramatically from – 40F which I have experienced to -65 F (which I have not experienced) as has been told to me by many ex-militaries who have served in Alaska for several years. Not only did they learn that the L-6 would be very good at -65 F so did I. This test as far as I am concerned confirms that the Lamilite/Climashield as I use it does perform at temperatures lower than what I rate my products to be used for.
The Lamilite/Climashield is also a very durable product. I have customers who purchased my bags when I first started and that was in 1986 and they are still using the bags. when they are washed, they do not emit fibers as happens with the “no sleep sleeping bags” that are filled with chopped staple fiber or down. when these bags get washed if they ever do the laundering, I am told causes the microfibers to go down the drain, into the oceans of the world and can wind up in the bellies of the fish you catch. Continuous filament fiber stays where it is sewn into a product from Wiggy’s.
Wiggy products made with Lamilite/Climashield are so durable and functionally so long lasting they do not fit the category of “planned obsolescence”.
Lamilite/Climashield also makes down obsolete but I am told down is so soft and cuddly, it is that however, Lamilite Climashield is equally as soft and cuddly for one tenth the price and can be laundered at home versus the need to bring the garment to a dry cleaner.
I have been an advocate of Climashield since its inception and believe EVERY company that markets outerwear or other insulated products should use it. Who would benefit from these companies if they started using the Climashield, the customers who buy Climashield garments. And ultimately the companies that sell Climashield insulated garments. Then they too will get letters as I do about how well the garments performs.
That may be a pipe dream of mine.
But as I have pointed out Lamilite/Climashield is a virtuous product because when you get a product made with Lamilite/Climashield you gain and keep a value and of course you have made a rational decision.
